  • Malawi won political independence from Great
    Britain in 1964.
  • The country is just slightly smaller than
    Pennsylvania. The land is mostly rolling plains
    and rounded hills.
  • A little over 11 million people live heremore
    than half (5.6 million) are under the age of 14.

  • Because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and famine there
    are a half million orphans.
