• Mythical heroes are extraordinary people who are
  made up by someones imagination.
• The story of their life is retold to others and
  passed down throughout the years to become a myth
  or a legend.

Paul Bunyan
When they gathered around the fire on cold winter
nights, the men would tell stories about a giant
lumberjack, Paul Bunyan, who did amazing things.

• Paul Bunyan is a mythical hero whose story
  was created by lumberjacks many years ago.

It was said that it took 5 giant storks to
deliver Paul to his parents!
He weighed 80 pounds when he was only 3 hours
old, and they had to use a wagon pulled by a team
of oxen as a baby carriage!

Pecos Bill

• Pecos Bill is a mythical cowboy whose story was
  created by ranch hands on cattle ranges. They
  told stories about him to keep from getting bored
  during the long days.

• Pecos Bill was said to be an amazingly skilled
  cowboy who could do everything from ride a
  tornado to rope a whole herd of cattle at one

  country.
• These people actually lived and are not made up
  by someone.

• Died March 6, 1836 San Antonio, TX
• (at age 49, defending Texas from invaders at the
  Alamo)
• He is a hero because
• Symbol of the American Frontier
• Fought for our country in The Battle of the Alamo
  and the Creek Indian War
• Congressman and political leader

Daniel Boone

• Born November 2, 1734 Pennsylvania
• Died September 26, 1820 Missouri
• (at age 85)
• He is a hero because
• explored and settled Kentucky
• fought to defend Kentucky and the settlers from
  Indian attacks
• lost two sons and a brother in the fighting, but
  still had mercy on the Indians.
