Why SUSTOIL?
Bio-based industrial products can only compete
with petro-chemically based products if the raw
materials are optimally exploited and a variety
of value-creating chains are developed

Objectives
  • To identify innovative and clean technologies,
    which allow maximal utilisation of the side
    streams generated throughout oil crop supply
    chains
  • To identify the most promising energy and
    bio-products which can be derived from oil-rich
    crops by complete utilisation of the plant
  • To develop advanced biorefinery schemes
  • To investigate the potential of integrating
    these into existing vegetable oil processing
    plants

Objectives
  • To ascertain the sustainability of the various
    developed schemes
  • To develop various policy scenarios to gain a
    better understanding of any potential
    environmental, economic and policy constraints
    the biorefinery sector could face
  • To disseminate the knowledge gained during the
    project through a dedicated website
    (www.sustoil.org)
  • To organise two workshops and one final
    conference.

Key messages
  • Do not underestimate the amount of time required
    to put a proposal together and negotiate the
    contract with the Commission
  • Put evaluators on your side! Proposal should be
    concise and easy to read
  • Proposal should consist of the right consortium
    for the project (e.g. manageable size, each
    partner should play a significant role)
  • Discuss budget early (researcher and
    administration should both be involved) and meet
    with consortium partners
  • Get as much help as you can from ENERGIE
    Helpline UK, UKRO, EU Commission and people
    outside your field
  • Press SUBMIT! (submit early versions and update
    it from time to time...)
