Blind Contour Line a method of drawing where
the observer looks only at the subject while
drawing, making sure to use one continuous
descriptive line.

  • Label, list, name, define, relate, recall and use
    art making tools

  • Practice no peeking blind contour line
    drawings of the students shoe or any object from
    environment. You could give the students a
    styrofoam plate to place over their pencil or
    marker to prevent peeking.

  • Blind contour is about drawing exactly
    what we see not what our brain may be telling
    us to hurry up and draw.
  • Blind contour drawing forces us to observe
    the outside edge of the object very closely.
    This exercise helps an artist draw that extra
    detail more accurately. Also, it's always
    encouraging to see how well you can draw
    something, even if you have to trick your brain
    to do it!

Blind contour is not supposed to be a correct
proportional drawing. The stranger it looks, the
better. The important thing to do is to train
your eye to draw what you really see.
