Learners
  • This lesson will be taught to students in the
    11th grade of high school.
  • The majority of the students in the class will be
    between the ages of 16 and 17 years old.
  • The lesson will be taught in a classroom with a
    diversity of students and of abilities.

    revolution.

Day One Plan
  • Lecture on origins of Industrial Revolution and
    effects in Europe and U.S.
  • Discuss and debate the problems when societies
    changed and how it could have been fixed.

Day Two Plan
  • Students will receive handout on women working in
    factories and mines.
  • After read, small groups will discuss thoughts
    and share with class.

Day Three Plan
  • Lecture on the spread of Industrial Revolution
    into U.S. and all surrounding areas.
  • Discuss what United States had to do to adjust to
    new economy and how new jobs were created.

Day Four Plan
  • Show video on urbanization movement
  • Students will takes notes and write essay on
    effects it had on Revolution and traditional
    farmers

Day Five Plan
  • Hold open discussion on what students wrote in
    their essays and also on how urbanization helped
    drive the Industrial Revolution in American
    market.
  • Students will be judged on essays and responses.

Day Six Plan
  • Discussion on new foreign policies put into
    effect during Industrial Revolution.
  • Also, discuss how those policies changed trade
    and relations with world.
  • Students will receive crossword puzzle to
    identify new foreign policies.

Day Seven Plan
  • Lecture on immigration movement to U.S. by
    different ethnic groups/effects in job market.
  • Students will receive a map of patterns.
  • Assign groups for project.

Day Eight Plan
  • Describe group project A Nation of Immigrants
  • Describe technological requirements involved in
    project.

Day Nine Plan
  • Give assigned groups time to work on projects.
  • When ready, groups will present material to class
    based on findings about ethnic groups impact.

Day Ten Plan
  • Groups will finish presentations.
  • Class will discuss what has been learned about
    movement.
