• A progressive neurodegenerative disease.
• In elderly people it is the most common form of
  dementia.
• Affects a persons ability to carry out daily
  activities.

• Language deterioration
• Mood and personality changes
• Poor judgment
• Plagues and tangles in the brain

• Age
• Family history
• Genetics
• High cholesterol
• High blood pressure

Treatment

• There is no cure treatment is used to make
  patients comfortable.
• Drugs can minimize symptoms for short periods of
  time.
• Medications used to control behavioral symptoms
• Experimental treatments include
  anti-inflammatory, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba,
  estrogen

Biology of AD

• Abnormal growth caused by AD Amyloid Plagues and
  Neurofibrillary tangles
• Brain loses nerve cell in some areas of the brain
  associated with memory and speech.
