Missouri Youth Health Initiative
  • Vision each region of Missouri will have a
    Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)
  • YAC is an opportunity for young people age 13 to
24 to give advice to health educators about how
to better serve young people and provide STD/HIV
    prevention education
  • Currently, there is a Kansas City YAC and a St.
    Louis YAC

5
Missouri Youth Health Initiative
  • YACs meet one time per month to advise on
    statewide STD/HIV prevention initiatives for
    youth ages 13 to 24
  • Youth Health Educators take YAC advice to local
    STD/HIV prevention planning bodies

6
Missouri Youth Health Initiative
  • Youth Health Educators primary charge is to take
YAC advice to the Missouri State STD/HIV
    Prevention Community Planning Group (CPG)
  • CPG meetings are difficult for young people to
attend, as they are hosted on week days in
    Jefferson City, MO
  • Through YAC, young people are afforded an
opportunity to assist with the Missouri Statewide
    STD/HIV Prevention Comprehensive Plan

7
Missouri Youth Health Initiative
  • YAC is not an intervention
  • YAC serves for needs assessment purposes
  • YAC discussion provides qualitative data
  • YAC members are experts

8
Missouri Youth Health Initiative
  • Provides needs assessment data
  • Local and state STD/HIV prevention planning
bodies use data in developing prevention
    strategies

    and design
