Objective

• The objective of this research was to determine
  the effect of temperature changes associated with
  seasonal changes upon the mallard population of
  Louisville in line with the idea that they will
  probably migrate south therefore, there will be
  a decline in the population here in Louisville.

Methods

• The total number of mallards was counted at a
  certain location beginning on the 1st October
  1999 and then counted three times a week
• The location was a site on the Beargrass Creek
  known for its many mallards
• The date, time, and temperature was recorded

• Scientific Name Anas platyrhynchoos
• The most common duck in North America
• Omnivorous
• Diet small plants, weeds, small invertebrates
• Aquatic Waterfowl
• Average Measurement 22 inches long
• Life Span as long 16 years

Conclusion

• There was a decrease of the number of mallards
  observed as the fall and winter season progressed
• Therefore, the Louisville area does experience a
  decline in the number of mallards during colder
  months because they migrate south
