    police from Latin America
  • Started in 1946 in Panama, but was moved to
    Georgia in 1984 because of the Panama Canal
    Treaty
  • Changed names to the Western Hemisphere Institute
    for Security Cooperation (WHISC) in 2001
  • Over 60,000 students have taken classes at the
    school
  • Numerous bills to cut funding to the school have
    come very close to passing in the U.S. House of
    Representatives

    assassination of the Jesuit priests in El
    Salvador
  • SOA Watch would like the school to be closed and
    the policies of the United States to be changed
    so that the poor of Latin America are helped and
    not oppressed
  • More than 180 people have served over 81 years in
    prison because of acts of civil disobedience
    against the SOA
