Introduction
Thailand prides itself on having a modern,
state-of-the-art medical system and many
hospitals have gone through the most rigorous
accreditation and certification processes,
passing with flying colors. In 2002, Thailand was
the first Asian country to achieve the
prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI)
accreditation, and today over 28 hospitals in
Thailand have received JCI accreditation.

Introduction
There are various types of accreditation and
certification available to medical facilities,
some international and others domestic. The most
prestigious is Joint Commission International
(JCI) and their more specialized Clinical Care
Program Certification (CCPC). Within Thailand,
many Thai hospitals use Hospital Accreditation
(HA), a national type of assessment and quality
certification.

CLINICAL CARE PROGRAM CERTIFICATION (CCPC)
In 2010, the JCIs governing board approved
eligibility requirements for Clinical Care
Program Certification (CCPC) programs in which
the host organization is not necessarily
JCI-accredited. Differing from accreditation,
Clinical Care Program Certification demonstrates
excellence in the integration and coordination of
care for treatment of a specific disease.

four-stage process

self-assessment and peer
assessment to gauge performance levels against

There are over 350 hospitals in Thailand with HA
certification.

HA focuses a great deal on the personnel
functions and skills in each particular hospital,
including patient care, organization, and
professional interaction between departments. A
culture of self-assessment, quality standards,
and constant improvement is cultivated and
developed. The HA program is a Thailand-specific
accreditation awarded by The Institute of
Hospital Quality Improvement Accreditation of
the Ministry of Public Health. Currently, there
are over 350 hospitals in Thailand with HA
certification, and this number is rapidly
