Surfing in the UK may not be as warm as the
Hawaiian Islands but the price is far cheaper and
the waves are good. Croyde Bay,
Devon Croyde is a sleepy village on the North
Devon Coastline, vibrant only to surfing and
outdoor types its a perfect escape for a
activity holidays. The main hub in Croyde is The
Thatch, a village pub, which caters for daytime
and evening dining and drinking. The restaurant
is old fashioned that makes it dark in places, so
make sure they sit you in the pub area and not
the main restaurant, unless you like diner style
locations.

Croyde Beach gives great surf and there is a
rescue service for peace of mind. Local surf
shops, such as Surfing Croyde Bay give surf
lessons every day throughout the summer period,
with often ten or more in the group. If you get
tired of the great surfing, Croyde offers many
walks and pathways to explore, including Baggy
Point. This pathway winds around the cliff tops
taking in some amazing views of croyde bay, and
neighboring farmlands. A great walk in the spring
months of April and May, when the seabirds come
to nest on the cliffs and the spring flowers are
in bloom. Along the way you will find old
whalebones and ponds full of wildlife, so great
for young explorers.   Accommodation in
Croyde ranges from camping to guesthouses and
there is no shortage of either. Ruda Park,
Parkdean offers a selection of static caravan and
camping options, to suit your requirements. With
an onsite pool and evening entertainment this is
a great mid-cost holiday. During the summer
months the camping is very popular due to the
short 2 minutes walk to the beach, so book well
in advance. Telephone 0844 335 3450.
4
Alnmouth Beach, Northumberland The main beach
at Alnmouth is popular with visitors as it
provides great big sandy beaches and views north
along the river Aln. The surfing is dependable on
the weather, like most spots in the UK, but can
deliver some swell perfect for surfing so book a
lesson and go get wet. Northside Surf School is
open all year. Places to stay in Alnmouth can be
sourced locally, from hotels to bed and
breakfasts. One BB worth mentioning is The Sun
Inn, known for its great hospitality and food,
they offer a selection of double and twined room
options. Tel 01665 830983.

Hells Mouth, Wales One of the best named
beaches in the UK, Hells Mouth Beach or Porth
Neigwl gives a good swell in most directions.
Best time to surf is at mid tide with a gentle
offshore wind, where the waves will be cleaner
and easier to ride. The beach is vast, so on
windy days can be difficult to hide from the sand
blowing around the cliffs. Accommodation can be
found cheaply at the Bunkhouse, on the Llyn
Peninsula, with rooms costing just 18 per night,
including breakfast. Telephone 01758 713527 for
reservations. So,
find more activity holidays locations and places
to stay in the UK.
