What is a Mammal?
  • A mammal is a warm blooded animal with a
backbone, and the young drink milk from their
    mother.
  • Animals as common as your cat or dog, and as
exotic as a giraffe are all mammals

3
What Do Mammals Look Like?
  • Mammals come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
  • Some mammals walk on two legs, some on four.
Some are tiny and some are huge. Some mammals are
scary some are funny. Mammals really are
different from each other in lots of ways.
  • In the next slides we will see all different
    types of mammals.

So Many Different Mammals

    really are all different.
  • Even though some swim and some walk, some live in
the jungle and some in your backyard, they all
have the things that make them mammals in common.
They all are warm blooded animals with back
bones that when they where young drank milk from
    their mothers.

Test Time!
  • In the next slides you will see pictures of
different animals. All you have to do is write
down on a piece of scrap paper if you think the

  • The fifth slide was a spider. No, it is not a
    mammal, it is an arachnid.
  • The last slide was tricky it was a dolphin. Yes,
it is a mammal. Although the dolphin lives in
the ocean, it is warm blooded, has a backbone,
