Title: The War on Terror

The War on Terror

What caused the attacks
  • The attacks were caused by Islam extremist. This
is not the first attack on the world trade
    center.
  • In 1993 a bomb exploded in the basement of the
    World Trade Center.
  • The FBI and the CIA were aware of future attacks
    on the united states.
  • Why was there no action taken before 9-11-01

3
Who is Osoma bin Laden?
  • Who is he protecting himself, Palestine or the
    extremist
  • Has been on the FBIs most wanted list for a
    mighty long time
  • Has a lot of money to invest into weapons for the
Taliban and the rest of Afghanistan

4
Who Is the Taliban
  • When the 'Students of Islamic Knowledge Movement'
(Taliban) emerged at the beginning of 1995 and
swept over most of the southern and eastern
states of Afghanistan in the course of one year,
many questions arose about the identity of the
Movement, its obje ctives, the sides that support
it and the reasons for its swift victories. With
the development of events along with the fall of
most of the Afghani states to the will of the
Mujahideen and the domination of 80 of the
Muslim Afghani land, the profile of the evolving
Movement began to appear, especially after it
took over the capital city, Kabul, and expelled
from it the Shiite-Communist confederation. So,
what are the facts behind this Movement and its
objectives? How did it deal with Arab Mujahideen
there? What are the dangers of the conspiracies
that plans to domesticate it and attempts to
change its path to conform with the interests of
the regional and international powers, especially
that of the United States and it's allies? (Time
    Magazine,2-95)

Is Osma bin Laden Dead or Alive?
  • The last time the world heard from Osama bin
Laden, there was reason to believe his end was
near. In a videotape released in December, bin
Laden looked sallow his speech was slow, and his
left arm immobile. (The Arab newspaper al-Quds
al-Arabi reported last month that bin Laden was
nursing a shrapnel wound when he made the tape.)
The U.S intercepted chatter in the Tora Bora
mountains between bin Laden and his forces that
seemed to give up his location. Pakistani forces
bottled up the border while American warplanes
pounded the caves of eastern Afghanistan and
special-ops troops positioned themselves for the
big grab. "He doesn't have a lot of good
options," said Deputy Defense Secretary Paul
    Wolfowitz.

Dead or Alive
  • But he still had a few. Six months after hailing
bin Laden's imminent capture or death, Pentagon
officials now admit that the al-Qaeda leader "has
gone missing" since the siege of Tora Bora.
Missing, of course, could mean dead, and a small
minority of officials in the Pentagon, CIA and
FBI believe that bin Laden's public silence since
the December tape suggests he has succumbed--if
not to U.S. air strikes, then possibly to kidney
failure. But the fact is, Washington just doesn't
know. "The proof that he's alive is, we don't
hear anything from Osama bin Laden," says Larry
Johnson, a former State Department counter
terrorism official. "The proof that he's dead is,
we don't hear anything from Osama bin Laden."
    (Time Magazine, 6/30/2002)

Where do we go from here?
8
What can be done to prevent future attacks
  • Government officials need not say to much of
anything to the media because they make a
situation bigger than what it is.
  • Government officials need to read into the
attack warnings or leads that are given to them,
in order to prevent more attacks.
  • Americans need to look out and report those who
either look suspicious and others who might try
to harm others in a deadly way.
  • Airport officials will need to step up security
measures , and train all personal on how to
    handle suspected terrorism.
