Title: FUEL FROM PLASTIC

1
FUEL FROM PLASTIC
2
INTRODUCTION
  • Waste plastics are one of the resources for fuel
production because of its high heat of
    combustion.
  • The conversion methods of waste plastics into
fuel depend on the types of plastics to be
    targeted.

3
Common plastics and uses
  • A chair made with a polypropylene seat
    -Polypropylene (PP)
  • Food containers, appliances, car fenders
    (bumpers), plastic pressure pipe systems.
    -Polystyrene (PS)
  • Food packaging.
  • -Polyethylene (PE

4
Current Situation
Plastic wastes are left on the streets
.or in landfills
5
Methods of converting plastic to fuel
  • Pyrolysis
  • Random depolymerisation

6
Pyrolysis
  • Pyrolysis refers to the thermal decomposition of
the matter under an inert gas like nitrogen.
  • For the production process of liquid fuel
plastics are decompose at 450 to 550 C.

7
Depolymerisation
  • This is reverse of polymerization or
    de-polymerization.
  • If such breaking of long polymeric chain or
scission of bonds occurs randomly, it is called
    Random depolymerisation.

8
  • Here the polymer degrades to lower molecular
    fragments.
  • In the process of conversion of waste plastics
into fuels, random depolymerisation is carried
out in a specially designed reactor in the
absence of oxygen and in the presence of coal and
    certain catalytic additives.
  • The maximum reaction temperature is 350C

CONCLUSION
  • Plastic waste recycling is one of the most
    established recycling activities in economically
    developed countries
  • In most of the situations, recycling of waste
plastics is becoming viable in developing
countries as well, as it generates resources and
    provides jobs.
  • Tones of plastic to grams of wastes.
