  • The Georgetown Fire Department responds to a wide
range of emergency incidents including motor
    vehicle collisions, medical emergencies and
    fires.
  • Originally formed from two fire companies, the
Erie 4 Fire Association and the Central Fire
Company, the Georgetown Fire Dept has grown into
    a progressive modern combination department.
  • We are passionate about being ready to help our
neighbors in their time of need.

3
  • The GTFD is a combination department, which means
that our station is composed of both on-duty and
paid-on-call crews. We are unique in that our
on-duty paid members are drawn from our on-call
    ranks. Emergency responsibilities and station
duties are based on training, experience and
    rank, not pay.
  • We are not volunteers in the true sense of the
word, for we are paid per call, but at the same
time we are not career firefighters.
  • Our ranks are made up of nurses, bankers,
teachers and other professionals from all walks
    of life.

5
  • During week days from 6 am to 4 pm, the on-duty
crew at the GTFD is paid.
  • On week nights as well as weekends and holidays
    the crews are exclusively paid-on-call.
  • There is no difference in certification standards
between career and paid-on-call firefighters in
    the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

6
  • Professionalism and pride in a job well done
don't come from a pay check, but rather from the
satisfaction of knowing that you make a
    difference.

7
  • The GTFD operates three Engines, a Ladder, a
    Rescue and other specialized firefighting
vehicles out of two stations the Central Station
on Central St and the Erie Station on North St.
  • We respond to over 800 calls per year, with the
demand for service growing each year.
  • You will be assigned to a station in relation to
    where in town you live.
