Africa_at_home brief history

• Demoed at WSIS Tunis 2005
• Went public July 2006
• Server at Uni Geneva
• Currently about 8000/28000 users/hosts

• 3 month student project at CERN, with
  participants from Mali, Cameroon.
• CERN, Uni Geneva, STI, ICVolunteers, IsF, funded
  by GIAN
• STIs MalariaControl.net is first app

Africa_at_home second phase

• Second phase Jan-Dec 2007
• Also funded by GIAN, WHO official partner
• Goals
• Two new projects in AIDS/TB/Malaria ported to
  BOINC
• BOINC servers installed in four academic
  institutions in Africa.
• African scientists trained in porting software to
  BOINC.

• Status
• STDSIM ported with Erasmus Medical Centre
• BOINC Workshop at AIMS in July
• HIVMM to be ported with SACEMA
• AutoDock to be ported with HealthGrid
• Satellite mapping applications
• Servers at SACEMA, UCT others
