Title: NONRENEWABLE AND RENEWABLE RESOURCES

NONRENEWABLE ANDRENEWABLERESOURCES
2
HMMMM....
  • What do you think nonrenewable resources are?
  • Break it down...
  • Nonrenewable?
  • Resource?

3
NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES
  • A nonrenewable resource is a natural resource
that cannot be re-made or replaced at a rate as
fast as its rate of consumption.

4
COAL, PETROLEUM, AND NATURAL GAS
  • Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are considered
nonrenewable because they can NOT be replenished
in a short period of time. These are called
    fossil fuels.

5
HOW IS COAL MADE ???
6
HOW ARE OIL AND GAS MADE ???
7
WHAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COAL AND OIL/GAS?
8
HMMMM....
  • If nonrenewable resources will one day be used
up, what will we use to meet our needs?

9
RENEWABLE RESOURCES
  • Renewable resources are natural resources that
can be replenished in a short period of time.
  • ? Air ? Animals
  • ? Water ? Crops
  • ? Plants

10
RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES
  • Renewable energy resources are natural resources
used to generate energy that can be replenished
in a short period of time. They are also known
    as alternative energy sources.
  • Wind ? Biomass
  • ? Geothermal ? Solar
  • ? Hydroelectric

11
SOLAR
  • Energy from the sun.
  • Why is energy from the sun renewable?

12
GEOTHERMAL
  • Energy from Earths heat.
  • Why is energy from the heat of the Earth
    renewable?

13
WIND
  • Energy from the wind captured by turbines and
    used to generate electricity.
  • Why is energy from the wind renewable?

14
BIOMASS
  • Energy from burning organic or living matter.
  • Biofuels are made from biomass.
  • Why is energy from biomass renewable?

15
WATER or HYDROELECTRIC
  • Energy from the falling water that usually
    involves a dam.
  • Why is hydroelectric energy renewable?

16
CONSERVATION
  • Practicing conservation or the careful use of our
resources (both renewable and non-renewable) will
help us continue to have the resources we need.

17
SUMMARY
  • What are the differences between nonrenewable and
    renewable resources?
