Title: Radial Arm Saw Safety & Operation The radial arm saw is use

1
Radial Arm Saw Safety Operation
  • The radial arm saw is used for cross cuts to cut
    stock to rough length.
  • The motor and blade are carried on an overhead
arm while the stock is held against a fence.

2
Pre-operation Safety
  • Before turning on the motor be sure that all
clamps and locking devices are tight and the
    depth of cut is correct.

3
Pre-operation Safety
  • Keep the guard in place and be sure it is
    operating freely.
  • Be sure the cradle rolls freely and is not loose
    or wobbly on the rollers.

4
Operation Safety
  • MAINTAIN A 6in. MARGIN OF SAFETY.
  • Your hands must never be inside the safety zone
or within 6in. of the path of the saw blade.

5
Operation Safety
  • Stock must be held firmly on the table and
    against the fence.
  • The ends of long boards must be supported level
    with the table.

6
Operation Safety
  • When cutting, stand to the side of the saw
maintaining a firm grip with a bent elbow to
prevent the saw from climbing over the material.

7
Operation Safety
  • Always return the saw to the rear of the table
and lock in place after completing a cut.
  • Never remove stock until the saw has been
    returned and locked in place.

8
Operation Safety
  • Always keep your eyes on your work.
  • Do not be distracted from your work.

9
Final Safety Points
  • Always wear safety glasses or shield when
    operating the radial arm saw.
  • Shut off motor and wait for blade to stop before
    making any adjustments.
  • Be sure the blade has stopped before you leave
    the machine.
  • The table should be kept clean and free of scrap
    pieces and excessive sawdust.
