• There are two verbs in Spanish that mean to be
• They may mean the same, but are used in different
  situations
• First, lets begin with their conjugations
• We will start with Ser

Ser is an irregular verb (it does not follow a
pattern that regular Spanish verbs do)
Yo soy I am Nosotros somos We are
Tú eres You are (informal)
Él/Ella/Ud. es He/She/You formal is Ellos/Ellas/Uds. son They/You all are

• It is best to memorize the conjugations of Ser as
  it doesnt follow a pattern.
• The following is a list of circumstances in which
  it is necessary to use Ser and not Estar

• Qué hora es?
• Son las dos.
• Origin
• De dónde eres?
• Soy de Nebraska.

• Cómo eres?
• Soy paciente/
• Professions
• Soy maestro
• Nationality
• Soy cubano

Like Ser, Estar is an irregular verb
Yo estoy I am Nosotros estamos We are
Tú estás You are (informal)
Él/Ella/Ud. está He/She/You formal is Ellos/Ellas/Uds. están They/You all are

Estar

• It is best to memorize the conjugations of estar
• Pay close attention to the accent marks on this
  verb
• They appear above the a in all the forms with
  the exception of the yo and nosotros forms

• Mood/Emotion
• Cómo estás?
• Estoy bien
• Estoy alegre

• Conditions
• Estoy enfermo
• Present Progressive
• Estoy bromeando.
• Ella está hablando.
