European Antibiotic Resistance Day Reflections
  • Needs careful preparation and planning (many
awareness days, without a vision and a mission)
  • Should target general public AND focus on theme
(children, day care centres, nursing homes,
    over-the-counter use, etc)
  • Not against (big) pharma launch of new
antimicrobial, new diagnostic test, new vaccine
  • Opportunity for DG SANCO, DG Research, etc, to
launch new surveillance and research findings
(EARSS, ESAC, eBUG, BURDEN, GRACE, MOSAR)
  • Opportunity to advertise Europe
  • The EU should continue to play a leading role in
the world to fight antibiotic resistance

11
  • The European Dream emphasizes community
    relationships over individual autonomy, cultural
diversity over assimilation, quality of life over
    the accumulation of wealth, sustainable
development over unilateral material growth, deep
play over unrelenting toil, universal human
rights and the rights of nature over property
rights, over global cooperation over the
    unilateral exercise of power
  • From The European Dream, by Jeremy Rifkin
