Kiwanis Education Spot Key Club
International is Kiwanis oldest continuing youth
service program. The first Key Club for key
boys was organized by the Kiwanis Club of
Sacramento in 1925. The concept of a service
club for high school students spread to other
Kiwanis clubs, and Key Club became an official
program of Kiwanis International by 1942. Today,
more than 150,000 young men and women belong to
Key Clubs in more than 4000 high schools
throughout the U.S., Canada, and a growing number
of other nations. Key Club International is
largely run by its members, who hold conventions
and elect officers each year at the district and
international levels.
If you were at Kiwanis for lunch last week you
got to listen to W. Richard Maxwell, the former
CEO of Junior Achievement of America.
Penman Road Clean-up!
We wish Pam Winstein all the best in the
future. Sorry to see her go.
Richard told us about the 86 year history of
Junior Achievement.  There are 150 JA service
centers around the US and their international
office serves nearly 100 countries around the
world. Junior Achievement began by working
with high school students after school, building
small businesses from scratch and learning
through experience how commerce works.  This
includes being responsible to investors.  After
70 years working with older kids the organization
has evolved into a program for younger kids and
an in-class curriculum. JA is funded almost
entirely through corporate and private
donations.  Most of the programs are staffed by
volunteers.  If you want to find out if it is
worthwhile, ask our own Jonathan Daugherty, a JA
alum.  Learn more about JA at www.ja.org

charity funds. Thanks to John Bates, Charlie
Bender, Ed Buickerood, Gary Crumley, Beryl
Dryden, Erica Godamunne, Don Lafond, Bill
Montgomery, Joe Overby, Neil Powell, Leigh
Roberts, Burt VanWagner, Carol Wallace, Ed
Robinson, Ed Zazzarino, Max Booke, those who
brought their husbands wives to help support
the club. . We enjoyed the fun and the work.

Spiritual Moment Max Booke presented our
Spiritual Moment last week.  It was a very
interesting history of the origin of St.
Patrick's Day.  I wonder what percentage of the
public even knows that it is a Christian holiday?
