What is Ubislate and what are its specifications?
2
  • Ubislate is a low cost tablet computer by
Datawind, a London based Technology Company
founded by two brothers of Indian origin Mr.
Suneet Singh Tuli and Mr. Raja Tuli. This company
in collaboration with the Government of India has
come up with low cost computing solutions and as
a result the Ubislate tablets have arrived for
the masses at affordable rates. These are the
same tablets that are available under the name
Aakash, for the students in India at highly
subsidized prices. The name Aakash is given
mainly to give the student version a separate
identity from its commercial version. However by
and large the specs remain the same although the
price is higher when compared to what the Aakash
    is made available at.

  • Ubislate 7 was the first version of Aakash tablet
and while it was priced at Rs. 2500 initially and
later received a processor upgrade to a 700 MHz
and was priced at Rs. 2999 the Aakash version
did not receive any such upgrade and had the same
366 MHz processor and was available for as low as
Rs. 1130 approximately. Only recently the Aakash
got an upgrade and was named as Aakash 2 with
much improved specs and performance. This tablet
too is actually Ubislate device named Ubislate
7Ci for the commercial buyer and is available at
Rs. 3,999 on the official Datawind website
www.ubislate.com, while a student can expect to
lay their hands on one at about Rs. 1500 if the
Government implements similar subsidies like the
    Aakash 1 tablet.
