Jumping Off Point
  • Missouri was the beginning of the Oregon trail.
  • It is where Pioneers traveled to start their
adventure to Oregon to find new land.

3
Hardships
  • Some of the hardships were diseases, Indians,
weather, wild animals, and rough rivers.
  • People also died from starvation, and snake bites
    could be very deadly.

4
Native Americans
  • The pioneers ran into many Native American tribes
along the way. Some of them were friendly and
    others would hurt them badly.

5
Clothing
  • The boys and men wore overalls, pants, and
    shirts.
  • The girls and ladies wore hand made dresses and
    silk gowns.

6
Food
  • They ate berries, nuts, buffalo, deer, fruits,
corn meal, and other foods on the trail to
    Oregon.
  • On their stops the men and boys went hunting and
fishing for food so they could go on.

7
Responsibilities
  • The men had to hunt for food and take care of the
    family.
  • The women had to wash and make the clothes.
  • The children had to take care of the animals.

8
Transportation
  • On the Oregon Trail pioneers traveled by wagon,
    horse, and carriage.
  • Most of them walked on the trail though.

9
Trail
  • One of the jumping off points of The Oregon trail
started in Independence, Missouri and ended in
    Oregon City.
  • It was about 2,000 miles long and took about six
    months to get there.

10
Weather
  • The Pioneers ran into many different types of
    weather along the way.
  • This includes hail, wind, rain, sun, thunder, and
    lightning.
