FEDERAL TUITION ASSISTANCE
  • Soldiers may use FTA to receive one degree/
    credential from each of the following levels.
  • Secondary School Diploma, i.e. HS or GED
  • Certificate (technical and licensure)
  • Associate
  • Baccalaureate
  • Masters or First Professional Degree
  • Examples of first professional degrees include
    CPA, Podiatry, Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry,
    Osteopathic, Pharmacy, Law, and Theology.
  • Universities must be accredited through U. S.
    Department of Education (DOE)

FEDERAL TUITION ASSISTANCE
  • Federal tuition assistance is based on the
    availability of funds and cannot be guaranteed to
    all soldiers.
  • A Degree plan for the degree you are obtaining
    must be on file in the education office.
  • A hard copy of the Statement of Understanding,
    which can be obtained at www.inarng.org under the
    education tab, must be on file or tuition
    assistance will not be authorized.

Federal Tuition Assistance Eligibility
  • Must have a valid expense from an accredited
    school.
  • Be a traditional ARNG soldier in an active
    drilling status.
  • Eligible beginning the day member joins ARNG,
    even prior to basic training or AIT and while
    still in High School.
  • Officers must serve 4 years after course
    completion or be subject to recoupment of all FTA
    monies.
  • Enlisted must simply remain in the ARNG during
    term of course.
  • Members receiving an ROTC scholarship are not
    eligible unless there is not a duplication of
    federal funds.

FEDERAL TUITION ASSISTANCE
  • Federal Tuition Assistance pays up to 100 with a
    cap of 250.00 per semester hour or 4,500.00 per
    fiscal year.
  • - Private or Public High Schools may be funded
    at 100 of Tuition, books and fees but still
    limited to 4500 per fiscal year
  • Caution to HS seniors, spring semester counts
    towards fall semester money

MONTGOMERY GI BILLSelect Reserve (Chapter 1606)
  • Eligibility
  • gt 6 Year obligation on or after 1 July 1985
  • gt High School Diploma or equivalent
  • gt Complete Initial Active Duty for Training
    (IADT) or equivalent
  • NOTE ENLISTED SOLDIERS MUST HAVE AN MOS,
    OFFICERS AND OFFICER CANDIDATES MUST HAVE
    COMPLETED IADT OR MUST COMPLETE OFFICER BASIC
    COURSE (OBC) and have signed Officer Service
    Agreement (DA FORM 5447-R).

MGIB-SR Chapter 1606
  • Period of Eligibility
  • Eligibility starts on the date of basic
    eligibility which is annotated on the
    Notification of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) DD Form
    2384-1.
  • Soldiers with a date of basic eligibility prior
    to 1 Oct 92 had 10 years to use their MGIB-SR
    benefit.
  • Soldiers with a date of basic eligibility on 1
    Oct 92 or later have 14 years to use their
    MGIB-SR benefit.
  • NOTE Eligibility for the MGIB-SR expires on
    the 10 or 14 year delimiting (ending) date,
    service member reaches maximum number of benefits
    (36 months of a single benefit or 48 months of
    combined benefits), or when the soldier leaves
    the selected reserve, whichever is earlier.

NOBE
  • The Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) is
    automatically generated once eligibility
    requirements are met and will be issued to you by
    your ARNG State MGIB Manager within 30 days of
    completing all eligibility requirements for the
    MGIB-SR (Chapter 1606).

  • Soldiers that served on or after 11 September
    2001 for 90 consecutive days or more on a Title
    10 GWOT mission.
  • Service Member must remain in an active
    participating status in the Reserve Component in
    order to keep Chapter 1607 benefit

MGIB-Active Duty (CHAPTER 30)
  • ELIGIBILITY
  • Entered active duty or AGR on or after 1 July
    1985.
  • 24 Months Active Duty Service
  • 1200 paid by SM
  • Never declined for Chapter 30
  • Expires 10 years after ETS.

MGIB-Active Duty Chapter 30
  • Period of Eligibility
  • Service Members are eligible to receive benefits
    up to 10 years from the last date of honorable
    discharge (release from active duty).
  • Extension Period of eligibility is extended if
    mobilized on federal active duty. Service member
    must send a copy of their AGR orders or Release
    from Active Duty (DD 214) to the Department of
    Veteran Affairs (DVA) to receive an extension.

    Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB)
  • Current members must have served 3 consecutive
    years in the National Guard, have remaining MGIB
    Benefits and must extend for a total contract of
    6 years. (SLRP can be used as well)

BONUS SLRP, SRIP, AND AFFILIATION
  • SLRP (Student Loan Repayment Program)
  • Loans have to be acquired prior to signing the
    contract.
  • Payments are made on the anniversary.
  • Payments can vary up to 3,000 a year.
  • Maximum amount of loan is 20,000 with an 8 year
    contract.
  • Promissory Notes in before requesting.

NEW SRIP POLICY FOR SLRP
  • A soldier can now keep the SLRP program when they
    accept a commission.
  • 6 years of eligible payments are made whether
    enlisted or officer.
  • Process remains the same based upon enlistment
    date.
  • Current SRIP policy allows Bonus and SLRP and
    Kicker if eligible.

Officer Accession Bonus
  • The ARNG offers a 10,000 Officer Accession Bonus
    to newly commissioned officers and newly
    appointed warrant officers who agree to serve in
    the ARNG and meet the eligibility requirements.

  • - Agree to serve for a period no less than 6
    years on active drilling status
  • - Agree to serve in a critical Area of
    Concentration (AOC)
  • - Must not be in a Mil-Tech or AGR position
  • - Not receiving Chapters 1608, 1609, 1611, 2107,
    2107(a), or special pay.
  • - Must remain eligible to participate in ARNG
    Tuition Assistance program.

Reenlistment Bonus
  • 15,000 for 6 year reenlistments
  • 7,500 for first 3 year reenlistment
  • 6,000 for second 3 year reenlistment
  • No AWOLS/Unexcused absences in previous 3 months
    or bonus is denied per AR 135-7
  • LUMP SUM for CONUS AND OCONUS.
  • Can reenlist 12 months from current ETS.

CAN BONUS BE RECOUPED?
  • Current SRIP policy is that if a soldier accepts
    a commission 12 months or more after being
    eligible for their bonus, there will NOT be any
    recoupment.
  • If it is less than 12 months then- YES the bonus
    is recouped on a pro rated basis.
  • Prior to accepting a commission verify with your
    OSM, OCS or WOC leadership this issue.

  • Must be a member of the INARNG
  • First test no waiting
  • Second test, requires 6 month wait
  • Third test requires NGB approval and 6 month wait
  • Must take test in its entirety, no longer can
    take portions as needed
  • Most recent scores will supersede all previous
    scores
