Title: Missionettes: What Every RR Commander Needs to Know

1
Missionettes What Every RR Commander Needs to
Know
  • Jonathan Trower

2
Session Overview
  • Structure of Missionettes program
  • Myths about Missionettes
  • Why a strong Missionettes program is vital in the
    local church
  • Ways Royal Rangers can help the Missionettes
    ministry

3
Missionettes Program
  • The Missionettes program was started in 1956 by
the Womens Missionary Council (WMCs, now WMs)
  • The ultimate purpose of Missionettes was, and is,
to win girls to Jesus Christ and teach them to
    live victoriously
  • Over the 50 years of Missionettes, they have
    honored over 40,000 Honor Stars

4
Missionettes Program
  • Missionettes have 153,210 members and 26,443
    leaders
  • In comparison, Royal Rangers have 102,057 members
    and 17,954 leaders
  • Youth groups have 372,247 members

5
Five-Fold Purpose of Missionettes
  • To win girls to Jesus Christ through love and
    acceptance
  • To teach them to obey everything Jesus commanded
    usdeveloping girls spiritually and mentally
  • To provide encouragement, support, and
    accountability through lasting Christian
    relationships
  • To provide an environment for girls to develop
    their gifts and abilities
  • To acquaint them with the Great Commission of
    Jesus Christ our Lord

6
Missionettes Program
  • Missionettes revamped their program in 1998,
releasing their new program at one time
  • The goal of the new program was to update the
program and make it more relevant for girls
  • Also made the curriculum circular, similar in
nature to what Royal Rangers went to during our
    update

7
Missionettes Structure
  • In the local church, Missionettes have six age
    groups
  • Rainbows (for boys and girls ages 3-pre-K)
  • Daisies (K)
  • Prims (1-2 grade)
  • Stars (3-5 grade)
  • Friends (6-8 grade)
  • Girls Only (9-12 grade)

8
Point 1
  • Royal Rangers need a strong Missionettes program
because Rainbows feeds both Missionettes and
    Royal Rangers
  • Boys in Rainbows wear a Future Royal Ranger
patch on their vest, so they associate with the
    program early

9
Missionettes Structure
  • National coordinator
  • District coordinator
  • Sectional coordinator
  • Local church coordinator

10
Point 2
  • Missionettes does not have the extensive
leadership structure that Royal Rangers has
  • They also dont have the extensive range of
activities on the national and regional level to
    support

11
Myths About Missionettes
  • Missionettes only go through junior high
  • Missionettes dont/cant go camping
  • Activities are not part of the program
  • Missionettes isnt/cant be fun for the girls
  • Its only book work and Scripture reading/
    memorization

12
Missionettes Emphasis on Activities
  • Missionettes in any age group may earn Adventure
badges and pins for participating in activities
    in the following categories
  • Outdoor adventure
  • Industry adventure
  • Professional adventure
  • Fine arts adventure
  • Community adventure
  • Ministry adventure

13
Missionettes Emphasis on Outdoor Activities
  • Girls in any club may earn the Outdoor Activities
    badge/award for participating in camping,
    hiking, mountain climbing, biking, canoeing,
    snowboarding, fishing, swimming, horseback
    riding, skiing, zoo trip
  • As a sponsor, you decide what type of outing is
appropriate for your girls considering your
    budget, location, resources available, interests,
and capabilities of the girls in your club.

14
Specific Awards
  • Stars has a camping award, Prims has a nature
    award
  • But even if activities are not built into the
Missionettes program like they are in Royal
Rangers, we can and should have activities for
    these girls

15
Point 3
  • Just as boys need activities, girls need them too
  • The nature of the activities may vary, but many
girls would find camping, hiking, canoeing,
rafting, etc. just as exciting as the boys do

16
Ways Royal Rangers Can Help
  • Share resources
  • Camping equipment, training aides, experts in
    areas of interest
  • Share ideas
  • Many activities that we have used in Royal
Rangers would be exciting to Missionettes too
  • Share leadership
  • Just as we offer to partner with youth for their
activities, offer to partner with Missionettes
when they need assistance with an activity

17
Ways Royal Rangers Can Help
  • Share training many LTA modules would be useful
    to Missionettes leaders, including
  • Working with Boys with Disabilities
  • Classroom Management
  • Presentation Skills
  • RK Day Camps
  • LTA Camp-Out
  • Safety and the Church
  • RK Skills
  • RK Activities
  • DR/AR Activities
  • Child and Substance Abuse Prevention

18
Ways Royal Rangers Can Help Joint Activities
  • Pinewood derbies
  • Field trips
  • Day camps
  • Hikes
  • High-action activities
  • Boating
  • Horseback riding
  • Camping
  • Skiing
  • Canoeing

19
Why Strong Missionettes is Needed
  • The girls of the church need an evangelistic
    program
  • The girls of the church need extra activities
beyond the Sunday and Wednesday activities
  • If we dont have a strong Missionettes program
for teenage girls, they will go to youth
  • Where will the boys go?

20
Imagine . . .
  • . . . what could be accomplished if Missionettes,
Royal Rangers, Childrens Ministries and Youth
all cooperated in a church . . . what an impact
we could have on the children of that church and
    community
