Book of Genesis
  • First book in the Bible
  • Originally written in Hebrew translated to Greek
    in 280 B.C.
  • Greek word meaning origin, source, beginning.
  • Tells about the beginning of many things.
  • Written by Moses around 1450 B.C.
  • Answers the question, Where did I come from?

The Creation
  • God spoke the world into existence. (Psalm 336)
  • Day 1 God created lightnight and day.
  • Day 2 He placed the firmament.
  • Day 3 Separated water/land vegetable life.
  • Day 4 Placed the sun, moon, and stars, in the
    firmament.
  • Day 5 Created sea animals and birds.
  • Day 6 Created land animals and mankind.
  • Day 7 He rested!

Sin Begins
  • Everything God created was good (131).
  • Adam and Eve lived in the Garden of Eden.
  • The marriage relationship (224).
  • The Law (216,17).
  • The serpent (Satan) tempts Eve (31-6).

  • All peoples lived together and spoke one
    language.
  • They wanted to make a name for themselves
    (114-6).
  • God confused their language.
  • They scattered.
  • The nations began.
  • One family (Shems) throughwhich Christ came.

Abrahams Life
  • Abram lived with his father, Terah, in Ur.
  • God called Abram to leave his home.
  • He gave him three great promises (121-7).

  • When famine strikes, Abram and Sarai move to
    Egypt. Sarai lies (128-20).

Strife Between Abram and Lot
  • Lot was given first choice (1310).
  • Lot taken captive in battle of the kings rescued
    by Abram.
  • Abram paid tithes to Melchizedek.
  • Abram and Sarah were well advanced in years, but
    they had no child.
  • The promise would be fulfilled in later
    generations (1513-20).
  • Sarahs plan to use Hagar (161-4).
  • Ishmael was born, but he was not the child of
    promise (1615,16).

  • Cities of the plain become morally corrupt.
  • They desire to have carnal relations with the men
    under Lots roof (195-11).

Isaacs Birth
  • When Abram was 99, God reconfirmed the
    promisenext year, he would have a son.
  • Isaac was born (211-4).
  • Abrams name changed to Abraham, and Sarais to
    Sarah (179-14)
  • Abrahams faith is tested (22).
  • Sarah died at 120 was buried in a cave at
    Machpelah near Hebron (231,2).
  • Rebekah is chosen to be Isaacs wife (2415ff).

  • Abraham died when he was 175 (257-11).
  • Isaac had two sonsJacob and Esau.
  • Isaac was partial to Esau.
  • Rebekah was partial to Jacob.
  • The older would serve the younger (2523).
  • Esau sold his birthright (2529-34).
  • Isaac, because he was deceived, gave the blessing
    to Jacob (2727-29).
  • Jacob fled, and Esau took a Canaanite wife.

    in Egypt (3736).
  • Jacobs name was changed to Israel (359-12).

  • He returns their money and keeps Simeon until
    they bring back Benjamin (4224-38).
  • They return, with Benjamin, to buy more grain
    (431-16).
  • Joseph reveals himself to them (451-3).
  • Joseph sends wagons to bring Jacob to Egypt70
    souls (461-27).

  • Joseph has all the money and land the people gave

  • Israel makes Joseph promise to take his body for

  • Brothers are afraid that Joseph will try to pay
