HOW ALCOHOL-RELATED COLLISIONS ARE DEFINED, 2006
  • Definition
  • One or more of the following conditions are met
    in VCRS/ARIES
  • Alcoholic Beverages is listed as the primary
    factor of the collision,
  • Alcoholic Beverages is listed as a contributing
    circumstance in the collision,
  • Any vehicle driver or non-motorist (pedestrian,
    pedalcyclist) involved in the collision had a BAC
    test result greater than zero,
  • The collision report lists apparent physical
    condition of any vehicle driver or non-motorist
    involved as had been drinking, or
  • A vehicle driver is issued an Operating While
    Intoxicated (OWI) citation.

    over-represented in alcohol-related collisions
    more likely to produce fatal and non-fatal
    injuries
  • Those at highest risk males between ages of 21
    and 39 TARGET ALCOHOL-RELATED PROGRAMS TO THIS
    GROUP
  • Indiana counties test, on average, about ½ of
    their fatalities for alcohol LEARN STRATEGIES
    OF SUCCESSFUL COUNTIES AND REPLICATE
  • BAC test results corroborate legal intoxication
    ASSURE UPDATED TEST RESULTS ARE ENTERED INTO
    VCRS/ARIES
  • Prime time for alcohol-related collisions is
    weekends, from 6pm Friday to 6am Monday FOCUS
    ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT DURING THOSE TIMES
