What is Addiction Psychiatry
Addiction psychiatry is the branch of psychiatry
is that deals with overcoming many forms
psychological addiction. It is undergo years of
training to understand the proper treatment.
Addiction is a physical dependence. It is called
the body being unable to maintain normal state
without use any substance. Addiction psychiatry
is the new area of the psychological medicine.
From last 100 years the idea has come to live.

What patients are misusing
  • For early refills, escalating requested amount
    and it truly an undertreated plan.
  • For other substances tox screens can be positive.
  • What to do ?

Dopamine pathway
  • DA neuron cell bodies lie in the VTA (ventral
    tegmented area ). It is the group of neuron
    located close to the mid brain. It is the origin
    of dopaminergic cell bodies.
  • Mesolimbic From mid brain to nucleus
    accumbens. It is also in the hippocampus.
  • Mesocortical it is situated from mid brain to
    the prefrontal cortex.

Function of Dopamine
It insrease the DA release, inhibit reputake and
act as the DA agonist. In acute increase of the
DA in the both mesolimbic and mesocortical
pathway to be essential in the linking and
increasing of the drug taking. Nucleus accumbens
is also essential.

Corticotropin Releseasing Factor And HPA Axis
In response to use the drug activation of the
mesolimbic DA system HPA axis is upregulated. In
case of acute case withdrawal psychological.
Increase in the cortisol CRF in addition to
neuropeptide, vesopressin are thought to persist
in months leadin gto the anxiety, it is called
protacted withdrawal.
