Title: Fuel System

1
Fuel System
  • Cirrus SR-20 Transition Course

12/23/03
2
General
  • Fuel Injection type system
  • 60.5 gallon capacity system (56 gallons usable)
  • 26 gallon capacity when serviced to tabs (13
    gallons each tank)
  • Aviation Grade 100 LL (Blue) or 100 (Green) fuels
    approved for use

3
Components
  • Wing Tanks (L/R)
  • Collector Tanks (L/R)
  • Quantity Indicator
  • Selector Valve
  • Electric Fuel Pump
  • Gascolator
  • Engine Driven Fuel Pump
  • Fuel Flow Indicator
  • Throttle Metering Valve
  • Injector Manifold

4
Operation
  • Fuel moves from main tanks to collector tanks
then through the fuel selector valve.

5
Collector Tank
  • Fuel from each main tanks is gravity feed through
a strainer and check valve to each collector
    tank.
  • Each collector tank has a fuel sump to check for
    contamination.
  • Each collector tank holds .67 gallons of fuel.

6
Operation
  • Vent Scoop Flush port located at outboard area
    of each fuel tank
  • Maintains positive pressure within the main fuel
    tanks

7
Operation
  • Fuel Annunciator Illuminates when each tank
contains less than 8.5 gallons of fuel
  • One tank can be drained of all fuel without a
    fuel annunciation

CAUTION
8
Operation
  • Drains Each tank (wing and collector)
incorporates a fuel drain at the low point of the
    tank
  • Fuel should be sampled from these drains prior to
the first flight of the day and after servicing

9
Operation
  • Electric fuel pump used for engine priming and
    vapor clearing
  • Boost provides low speed fuel line
pressurization of 4-6 psi. for vapor suppression
  • Prime high speed pressurization to 4-6 psi.
  • Electric fuel pump will not maintain fuel
pressure in the event of an engine driven pump
    failure

WARNING
10
Operation
  • Fuel delivered to cylinders controlled by
    Throttle Metering Valve
  • maintains appropriate fuel/air mixture
  • Gascolator Fuel filter, low point of fuel
    system
  • Should be drained prior to the first flight of
    the day and after servicing
  • Injector Manifold Spider delivers equal
amounts of fuel to individual injectors

11
Notes
WARNING
  • Maximum Allowable System Imbalance 7.5 Gallons
  • Do not allow airplane to operate in uncoordinated
flight in excess of 30 seconds when operating
with tanks less than ¼ full
  • This may cause fuel ports to be uncovered
    resulting in power loss
