Gulf Cooperative Countries High Council (GCCHC)
has established the Gulf Standardization
Organization for Gulf Cooperative Countries (GSO
for the GCC) on 9th November 1982.
It is the Gulf region standardisation
organization for GCC Countries (Saudi Arabia,
UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman). GSO members are from
all national standardisation organizations in
these countries.

6GSO Main Activities
- It is responsible for issuing new and updating
existing Gulf Standards developed and approved by
its technical committees.
- In cooperation with National GCC Countries
Standardization Organizations, GSO is currently
making significant efforts on the adoption of
International Standards as Gulf and National
Standards.
7GSO Main Current Activities Cont.,
- Harmonization of GCC countries standards,
technical regulations and conformity assessment
procedures with International Standards and
practices is one of the main items in the current
and future plans of GSO.
- GSO is planning to enhance the participation of
the GCC countries in the International
Standardization Technical Committees.

GSO TC 7 Establishment/Background
- GSO TC 7 was established as an initiative of
Qatar Petroleum and as a result of international
Standards workshop held in Doha April 2006
- The committee was approved on the 19th, April
2006 by GSO Standards General Committee and
Technical Council as the Seventh Committee of GSO
- The State of Qatar represented by Qatar
Petroleum was selected as chair and Secretary
- The committee members are from GCC countries
standardization bodies/authorities and oil and
gas companies

12GSO TC 7 MISSION VISION
Mission To manage developing, updating,
maintaining and monitoring of value-added Gulf
Standards for petroleum, natural gas and
petrochemical industries. This is by adopting
applicable international standards, generating
new and updating existing Gulf Standards.
Vision Fit for the purpose Gulf Standards used
by all GCC countries and based on latest
international and industry standards, satisfying
the region specific requirements and market
availability.
13GSO TC 7 OBJECTIVES
1) General objectives
To guide Gulf Oil Gas Industry Standardisation
by effective participation of Committees Members
in this process on teamwork basis to accomplish
the following targets
- To unify the Gulf Oil Gas Industry
Standardization work in order - to achieve uniformity, reliability,
efficiency and variety control.
- To improve quality of work and avoid duplication
of oil and gas standardization work within GCC
countries.
- To achieve cost optimisation in procurement
(material / equipment), design,
production/processing and services.

2) Specific Objectives
- a) To harmonize GCC Countries current Oil Gas
companies standards with each other and with
international standards. - To develop new and update current Gulf Standards
to satisfy the GCC Countries specific
requirements and international standardisation
needs. - To establish a system for involvement of GCC
Countries in ISO TC 67, TC 28 and TC 193
technical work to include Gulf Region specific
requirements. - To adopt latest revisions of International
Standards (ISO/IEC), which satisfy the region
specific requirements as Gulf Standards. - To establish a database for Gulf Oil Gas
Companies Standards Specifications and provide
easy access to all members.
15GSO TC 7 SCOPE OF WORK
The Gulf Oil Gas Standards Committee covers
the following standardization activities
- Material, equipment and offshore structures used
in Petroleum, Petrochemical, Natural Gas
industries and LNG industries i.e., drilling,
production, processing, transportation and
storage equipment. - Petroleum natural gas products (refined
petroleum LNG/NGL Products) - Technical terminology, Inspection and testing,
Management Systems , (Quality, Health , Safety ,
and Environment).
