SERENDIB SCHOLARSHIP FUND SSFwww.ssf-lanka.com
DRAFT Ver2
  • Founded in 1991

2
Sri Lankan Muslim community and Education
  • Official statistics clearly show that the Sri
Lankan Muslim community is far behind
    academically, economically and socially when
    compared with others.
  • Central Bank Surveys indicate that the lowest per
capita income earners in Sri Lanka are Muslims
    living in rural areas.

3
The Muslim community and Education in Sri Lanka
Muslims, out of 8 of the total population, only
3.62 of the government employees. The community
that gains the lowest admission to University is
Muslims, only 4 of Muslims gain admission to the
Universities..
4
The Muslim community and Education in Sri Lanka
This pathetic status warrants the community to
shoulder a greater responsibility to prevent the
future generation from falling into the abyss of
educational backwardness.
5
SERENDIB SCHOLARSHIP FUND -SSF is dedicated and
determined to help these needy and talented
students by extending the much- needed financial
assistance, which most of their parents cannot
afford.

    Sri Lanka since 1991.

    employed overseas

students from all over the island.

Current Status
  • We are in the process of registering the entity
under Sri Lankan Parliamentary Act as a
    Charitable Institution in Sri Lanka.
  • Number of deserving students seeking assistance
is far greater than the number that we are
    capable of supporting.

16
Future goals
  • To diversify our supports to students.
  • To extend collecting donations.
  • To provide career guidance
  • To enhance and promote advancement of
    educational, technical and professional skills
    and economic welfare.
  • To establish an Endowment Fund

17
Endowment FundSadaqa Al Jaria Fund
  • In 2005 SSF introduced an Endowment Fund to
operate like an investment vehicle. Thus, the
principal sum is retained, permitting the Fund to
    be maintained in perpetuity.
  • Once it is created, the income earned is used to
support the intended purpose of the fund.

18
Endowment FundSadaqa Al Jaria Fund
  • Under the scheme a donor donates a lump sum say
    Rs.100,000/(US 1000)
  • The sum donated is invested by the fund to
generate an annual income. The income generated
is accumulated till it is sufficient to sponsor a
    scholarship.
  • Only the income will be used and not the
    donation.

19
Your Participation
  • This organization does not belong to any group or
individuals and it is a common property of SL
Muslims. You are welcome to join us.
  • We all got together and dedicated to help the
educationally backward Muslims in Sri Lanka.
  • Our success and the strength in our relentless
pursuit for helping the Muslim community solely
depends on the generosity, assistance and co-
    operation of the fellow Muslims.

20
Our Needs
  • SSF is mainly dependent on generosity of its
donors. We all can extend our services if we
    receive more supports.
  • Also we encourage you to initiate similar
scholarship programs in your country so we all
can coordinate in this noble task.
  • Introduce this project to your contacts.

21
Your contributions to this cause would pave the
way to increase the number of scholarships to
support this backward community.
