Title: Double Sided Printing By Matthew Maggy

1
Double Sided PrintingBy Matthew Maggy
  • A green concept that saves green.

2
How does this save money?
  • Suppose the average office prints 1,000 pieces of
    paper per day
  • Double sided printing turns 1,000 pieces of paper
    into 500. (1,000/2 500)?
  • Assume the price of a 500 sheet package of copier
paper is 4.95. Before double sided printing a
    day's printing in an office costs 9.90 (4.95 x 2
    9.90).
  • Multiply the one sided printing number by 30
    departments (9.90 x 30 297) and you have 600
    spent on printing.
  • Double sided printing will cut this cost in half
    (297/2 148.50)?

3
Perspective
  • Assume that the average Washoe County Worker gets
    paid 50,000/year.
  • Assume that worker works 238 paid days per year.
  • 50,000/238 210.08. With a 148.50 savings per
day due to double sided printing, this covers 66
of an employees wage for a day.
  • Over the year, assuming each office is running
for 238 days per year. This is a savings of
    35,348/year. (238x 148.50 35,348)?
  • This is the yearly salary of at least one person
    who works in that department.
  • Every bit counts. Little cuts here and there ?
    will add up.

4
Environmental Benefit
  • Saving paper saves trees.
  • Without trees to absorb carbon dioxide and turn
it to pure oxygen, the carbon drifts to the ozone
    layer contributing to global warming.
  • Save money and help stop global warming!

5
Implementation
  • The simplest way is to tell employees to print
double sided. Simply go to options at the
printer screen and choose to print on both sides.
When the first side is printed on a series of
papers, simply reinsert the papers the way they
came out of the printer and it will print on the
other side. This can be done by a memo and a
simple demonstration. Also, a sheet of paper by
each desk showing the steps will allow people to
    have a visual.
  • Another way to implement this is when it comes
time to buy new printers (every 5 years), buy
ones that print double sided (they have been out
for a while, just make sure employees choose this
    option.
