QATAR PETROLEUM (QP)
Overview
  • Established in 1974 as a national corporation
completely owned by the State of Qatar.
  • Responsible for all oil and gas industry
activities in Qatar, including exploration and
    drilling for hydrocarbon substances, production,
refining, transport, storage, sale and export of
    the aforementioned substances and their
    derivatives and by- products.

The operations and activities of QP are conducted
at various onshore locations, which include Doha,
Dukhan, Mesaieed and Ras Laffan Industrial
Cities, as well as offshore areas including Halul
Island, offshore production stations, drilling
platform and North Gas Field.
5
QATAR OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY
Qatar hydrocarbon products are produced mainly
from
  • Onshore Dukhan Field, Two offshore oil fields
(Bul Hanine and Maydan Mahzam) and North Gas
    Field.
  • Other offshore fields have been developed in
cooperation with major international oil and gas
    companies through production- sharing agreements.

QATAR OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY
  • Currently, there is a great emphasis on the
development of the large non-associated gas
reserves of North Field. Several projects are
already tapping the Gas North Field
  • Qatar Petroleum is committed to utilizing the
latest technology and to improve the recovery of
oil and gas reserves through the application of
    well established, state-of-the-art technology as
    captured within international standards.

has established the Gulf Standardization
Organization for Gulf Cooperative Countries (GSO
for the GCC) on 9th November 1982.
It is the Gulf region standardisation
organization for GCC Countries (Saudi Arabia,
UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman). GSO members are from
all national standardisation organizations in
these countries.
17
Principle Objectives of GSO
  • Improve gulf countries economics by making them
    more efficient and competitive.
  • Promote the development and unity of
standardization efforts in the GCC countries.
  • Promote the industrial, scientific and
technological development in the benefit of
exchange of goods and the provision of services.
  • Facilitate cooperation in the intellect,
    scientific and social fields.

18
GSO Main Current Activities
  • It is responsible for issuing new and updating
existing Gulf Standards developed and approved by
its technical committees. It is also responsible
for adopting International Standards as Gulf
    standards..
  • In cooperation with National GCC Standardization
    Organizations, GSO is currently making
significant efforts on the adoption of
International Standards on various subjects, as
Gulf and National Standards and revise GSO
    Standards with respect to International
    Standards.

19
GSO Main Current Activities Cont.,
  • Harmonization of GCC Standards/Technical
    Regulations and conformity assessment procedures
with International Standards and practices is one
of the main items in the current and future plans
    of GSO.
  • GSO is planning and looking forward to enhance
the participation of the GCC countries in the
    International Standardization Technical
    Committees.

GSO TC 7 OBJECTIVES
1) General objectives
To guide Gulf Oil Gas Industry Standardisation
by effective participation of Committees Members
in this process on teamwork basis to accomplish
the following targets
  • To unify the Gulf Oil Gas Industry
    Standardization work in order
  • to achieve uniformity, reliability and
    efficiency
  • To improve quality of work and avoid duplication
of oil and gas standardization work within GCC..
  • To achieve cost optimisation in procurement
    (material/equipment), design, production/processin
    g and services.

25
GSO TC 7 OBJECTIVES
2) Specific Objectives
  • a) To harmonize GCC current Oil Gas companies
standards with each other and with ISO standards.

    Gas Companies in TC 67,TC 28, TC193 TC 176
    technical work.
  • To adopt current International Standards
(ISO/IEC), which satisfy the Gulf Region oil
    gas requirements as Gulf Standards.
  • To establish a database for all GCC Oil Gas
    Companies Standards and Specifications and
provide easy access to all members.

26
GSO TC 7 SCOPE OF WORK
The Gulf Oil Gas Standards Committees will
cover the following standardization activities
  • Material, equipment and offshore structures used
    in Petroleum, Petrochemical, Natural Gas
industries and LNG industries i.e., Drilling,
    Production, processing, transportation and
    storage equipment.
  • Petroleum natural gas products (refined
    petroleum LNG/NGL Products)
  • The Committee will also cover standardization

The Importance of International Standardization
For the Gulf Region
  • ISO is a world leading developer of International
Standards. ISO Standards specify requirements of
    State-of-the-art products, services, process,
material systems and good conformity assessment,
    managerial and organizational practices. ISO
Standards are designed to be adopted and
    implemented worldwide.

29
The Importance of International Standardization
For the Gulf Region
  • Gulf Oil Gas Industry can benefit from
International Oil Gas Industry experiences, new
    technology, managerial and organizational
    practices.
  • Easy to prepare Gulf Oil Gas Industry required
Standards and practices, which enable companies
    to minimize their specifications.
  • Establish common standards in Oil Gas Industry
for the benefit of world trade (Technology and
information transfer) within the same regional
    area.
