An Introduction To
  • Emotional Freedom Technique

2
Who Am I?A brief introduction
3
What is EFT?
  • A meridian based therapy with a wide range of
    applications.
  • Connects mind, body emotions via the bodys
    energy system.
  • Quick easy to learn.
  • Often has fast results.
  • Has 80-95 success rate.
  • Works well in conjunction with other therapies.

4
Energy Psychology
  • EFT come under the general field of Energy
  • Psychology. Other therapies in this group
  • include TFT, TAT, BSFF, REMAP others.
  • They base themselves on the principle of using
the mind to tune into, and connect to the
problem. Then they treat the energy system to
    clear it completely.

5
A Brief History
6
The Discovery Statement
  • The Cause Of ALL Negative Emotions Is A
Disruption In The Bodys Energy System
  • A thought or memory
  • ?
  • Triggers
  • ?
  • Disruption in the bodys energy system
  • ?
  • Experienced as
  • ?
  • Physical, psychological or emotional pain

7
What Caused The Disruption?
  • Accident or trauma.
  • Specific emotional incidents (teacher humiliating
you in class). The earlier in life the less
    severe this needs to be.
  • Social/parental conditioning. (Writing on our
    walls)
  • Past life.
  • Energetic birth defect. (Genetic)
  • Geopathic stress

8
Psychological Reversal
  • A state of mind/energy system which will self
sabotage any attempt to get better.
  • Can be driven by some secondary gain.
  • Present in around 40 of most issues, and in
around 95 of chronic health conditions and
    addictions.
  • Can be treated quickly and simply, though will
return unless the underlying causes are treated.

9
Apex Effect
  • When the client has such a profound cognitive
shift they can no longer identify with their
previous issue. E.g. They had intense anger then
    move into sadness without noticing.
  • SUDs
  • Subjective Units of Distress/Discomfort/Disease
  • No problem 0????????10 Big problem

10
What can EFT be used for?
  • Fears Phobias
  • Addictions (including weight loss)
  • Emotional/Physical/Sexual Abuse
  • Physical/Emotional Pain (including PTSD)
  • Headaches Migraines
  • Sports Performance (including increasing ROM)
  • Allergies Sensitiveness
  • Self Image/Confidence
  • Success Abundance (limiting beliefs)
  • Chronic Illness (MS, ME, arthritis, etc)
  • Other (tinnitus, phantom pain, dyslexia, etc)

11

12
Video Clips
  • Fear of mice rats
  • Smoking cravings
  • Childhood trauma
  • At this point I show the 3 clips listed above
which are found in the Gary Craig videos. This I
incorporate into PowerPoint but due to file size
cannot do here. Add them here or remove this page.

13
EFT Does Not
  • Remove common sense caution.
  • E.g. removing a fear of heights will make
someone jump of a high building.
  • Clear addictions by removing the cravings. I.e.
    You must clear the underlying
  • emotions for long term results.
  • Negate the lessons, reason or truth of someone's
    experience.
  • Replace correct medical supervision.

14
EFT The Basics
  • The setup phrase An acknowledgement of the
problem and an acceptance of the self.
  • Even though I have this problem I deeply and
    completely accept myself
  • The reminder phrase Helps maintain focus on the
    issue being treated.
  • This problem

15
The Points
16
A Round of Tapping
  • Identify the problem and measure its intensity
    from 0-10
  • Create a set-up and reminder phrase that is
specific and accurately describes the problem
  • Repeat set-up phrase 3 times while rubbing the
    sore spot
  • Repeat reminder phrase while tapping on each of
    the following points 7 times
  • EB, SE, UE, UN, UL, CB, UA, TN, IF, MF, LF, GP,
    KC
  • Repeat the above sequence
  • Take a deep breath, and let go
  • Check intensity level
  • Repeat if necessary
  • Ensure all emotional charge has gone and
    intensity is rated at 0

17
Trying EFT On Breathing
  • Take a slow, deep breath and relax.
  • Repeat again, this time notice any restriction.
Rate the depth and ease of breath on a scale of
    0-10.
  • Do a round of EFT
  • Repeat breathing and notice if there has been any
    change.

18
Tips For Improved Success
  • Be Specific Describe the pain, Relate to
specific events, Refer to specific people.
  • Say the setup and reminder phrases as though you
    mean them, own the words.
  • Change the reminder phrase as needed to reflect
the change in the problem being worked on.
  • Say what you mean, be honest with yourself and
    your emotions.

19
Ideas For Different Problems
  • Pain
  • Describe pain (Sharp, Shooting, Dull Ache) and
    location (left shoulder, neck etc).
  • Use visual image of pain (colour, size, texture).
  • Emotion behind the pain, what is it how long has
    it been there?
  • Fears
  • When did they start, do you know the cause?
  • Visualise problem, get client to imagine the
    fear.
  • Approach real fear slowly, treating each step of
    the way.

20
Ideas Continued
  • Cravings
  • Focus on substance.
  • Feel where in the body the craving is felt.
  • Clear issues of loneliness, anxiety, emptiness
    deprivation.
  • Emotional Issues
  • Focus on the source of the emotion, who, when,
where, why? Deal with specific incidents.
    Visualise scene.
  • Where in the body is it felt.
  • Use descriptive visualisation, (colour, texture,
    shape, location etc)

21
The Practical
  • Choose a partner.
  • Decide who will be the therapist and who will be
    the client.
  • Choose an issue to work on. Keep it simple for
now. (Perhaps a physical discomfort, a craving, a
fear of something tangible, Do not work on deep
    traumas)
  • Spend 10-15mins clearing issue
  • Swap roles and treat for 10-15mins.

22
Reminder Page

    from 0-10
