Why addicts fear drug rehab centers
  • Drug rehab centers in United States are providing
invaluable services in the form of drug rehab
programs to those addicted to drug and alcohol.
All of these drug rehab centers are not alike as
each has its own program options, staff
    qualifications, cost, credentials and
effectiveness. There are however, some fears
among the drug and alcohol addicts in undergoing
various drug rehab treatment programs that are
being rendered at these centers. Some of the most
common fears for not undergoing drug and alcohol
rehab treatment at these rehab centers include
  • Detoxification and withdrawal fears Drug addicts
in majority experience withdrawal symptoms during
their addiction. However, they are able to stop
the withdrawal symptoms by taking more drug
substances. They also know how tough these
symptoms to be controlled are. Therefore, they do
not want to go to these centers for getting
    detoxification treatment without consuming or
having their share of drugs or alcohol.

2. Fear of loss of reputation Drug addicts are
found in all societal strata whether they are
rich or poor/homeless. The fear for loss of
reputation is mostly found in rich, famous and
influential people in the society. These people
do not want to be or get exposed as they stand to
lose a great deal if publicized about their drug
addiction. Therefore, they get refused to get
being treated at these centers and mistakenly
believe that they are in control of the
situation. 3. Fear of losing relationships
Another common fear among the drug addicts is of
loosing relationships with families, friends and
other acquaintances. These people fear that
getting admitted into drug addiction centers will
create a painful separation from their family
members. Moreover, they do not want to spend time
among strangers and in unfamiliar surroundings.
However, they fail to realize that not getting
proper drug addiction treatment will anyway
result in loosing relationships due to drug
addiction.

4. Change in body structure The common side
effects of drug addition are weight loss and
decreased appetite. People losing weight by
taking drugs in the course of their weight
reduction plans sometimes gets addicted to these
drugs. These people fear that on discontinuing
these drugs result in gaining body weight or an
abrupt change in their body structure. 5. Fear
of facing old trauma During the drug treatment
programs, counselors usually help addicts to
recognize and strongly face up to their past
experiences that might have contributed to their
desire for consumption of drugs. The intensity of
these personal dilemmas is too hard to be
confronted by the drug addicts as they do not
want to remember their painful times. This fear
makes the drug addicts not to get admitted to
drug rehab centers. Thus, these are some of the
common fears of drug and alcohol addicts to get
admitted to these centers.
