2
Swami Vivekananda
  • Born in Calcutta on January 12, 1863, Swami
Vivekananda was the chief disciple of Sri
Ramakrishna. He was a marvellous blend of all
excellences. Eager to know if God is true and
perceptible, he was guided to Sri Ramakrishna who
assured him from his personal realization that
God is the only Reality and can be communed with.
Questioning the Master at every step and
accepting nothing without rigorous proof, he was
able to be in tune with the Infinite.

Knowing more of Swami Vivekananda
  • Swami Vivekananda needs no introduction, for his
is a household name in India. Swami was one of
the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern
world, a great lover of humanity whose
unconditional love extended to all people without
any distinctions of caste, class, creed, race,
region or religion. Swami Vivekananda is also
remembered as a great patriot, the first cultural
ambassador of India to the West, who raised the
prestige of India in the eyes of Western people
and changed their views about India with the
    compelling force to truth.

4
Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramakrishna
  • Swami Vivekananda ( 1863 - 1902) was a preacher
of 'Divinity in Man'. Born Narendranath Dutta on
12 January, 1863 in Calcutta , he gave clear
indications of self-realisation in his early
days. A youth of guts and gumption -- with an
iron determination and a fiery zeal to seek  the
highest knowledge of the self, he met Sri
Ramakrishna at the Dakshineswar Kali temple in
1881 the incident that channelised himself later
on towards the greatest cause of humanity. The
Great Master inculcated in his foremost disciple
the presence of an all-pervading stream of
consciousness in every being, the immanence...

5
Put India on religious map of universe
  • After the Master's passing away he took upon
himself the great mission of propagating the
truth of oneness, the universality of being, the
harmony of religions, and the glory of the Atman.
He put India on the spiritual map of the world by
his famous addresses at the Parliament of
Religions held in Chicago in 1893.

WELCOME ADDRESS Sept 11, 1893Sisters and
Brothers of America, changes the image of India
  • It fills my heart with joy unspeakable to rise in
response to the warm and cordial welcome which
you have given us. I thank you in the name of the
most ancient order of monks in the world I thank
you in the name of the mother of religions, and I
thank you in the name of millions and millions of
Hindu people of all classes and sects.

7
Are we still neglecting the masses is our
growth is artificial ???
  • Swami Vivekananda had identified the neglect of
the masses as the major problem. He had said the
masses had forgotten their individuality and lost
faith in themselves. The one-sided growth story
in India today has neglected the masses.
Vivekananda's solution was to restore people's
    confidence in themselves.

8
Ramakrishna math propagates higher values of life
  • He made Vedanta popular in the West, and in India
he established the twin organizations, the
Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission, in
1897, to train those who had renounced the world
in search of God and to integrate the activities
of individuals who chose to serve fellow men
and women unselfishly. His brilliant speeches and
writings constitute a rich legacy for all
who care for the higher values of life.

9
Swami Vivekananda on greatness of India
  • As I look back upon the history of my country, I
do not find in the whole world another country
which has done quite so much for the improvement
    of the human mind.

10
Swami Vivekanandas religion is upliftment of
co-humans
  • On Monday, September 11, 1893, Swami Vivekananda
addressed an audience of seven thousand at the
Worlds Parliament of Religions in Chicago. He
was a delegate of no particular faith, dogma, or
sect, but one who represented the Universal
Religion of the Vedas and spoke for the spiritual
upliftment of all humanity. The swami did not
condemn or criticize any faith, believing that
all religions were equally valid paths to reach
the one goal. But he warned of the dangers that
would come if the message of harmony of religions
continued to be ignored or neglected

11
Swami emphasizes India is punya bhumi
  • Is there is any land on this earth that can lay
claim to be the blessed Punya Bhumi, to be the
land to which all souls on this earth must come
to account for Karma, the land to which all the
souls in the world must come for its last home,
the land where humanity has attained its highest
    towards gentleness, towards generosity, towards
purity, towards calmness, above all, the land of
introspection and of Spirituality - it is India.
Here is life giving water with which must be
quenched the fire of materialism burning millions
    of hearts in other lands.

12
Love to co-humans is real strength in you
  • All love is expansion, all selfishness is
contraction. Love is therefore the only law of
life. He who loves lives, he who is selfish is
dying. Therefore love for love's sake, because it
is law of life, just as you breathe to live.

13
You are the creator of your destiny
  • Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole
responsibility on your own shoulders, and know
that you are the creator of your own destiny. All
the strength and succor you want is within
yourself. Therefore make your own future.

14
Weak minds do sins
  • Bear in mind, my children, that only cowards and
those who are weak commit sin and tell lies. The
brave are always moral. Try to be moral, try to
be brave, try to be sympathizing.

15
Take up idea try to achieve best in .Too many
ideas do not land you anywhere
  • Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life -
think of it, dream of it, live on idea. Let the
brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body,
be full of that idea, and just leave every other
idea alone. This is the way to success.

16
We can achieve success with practice of
  • Purity, patience, and perseverance are the three
essentials to success and, above all, love.

17
Work on few essentials do not work in many ideas
  • Books are infinite in number and time is short.
The secret of knowledge is to take what is
essential. Take that and try to live up to it.

18
Experience is your real Teacher follow it
  • Experience is the only teacher we have. We may
talk and reason all our lives, but we shall not
understand a word of truth until we experience it
    ourselves.

19
Realize you are everything there
is a divinity in you
  • All power is within you. You can do anything and
everything. Believe in that. Do not believe that
you are weak do not believe that you are
half-crazy lunatics, as most of us do nowadays.
Stand up and express the divinity within you.

20
Wiping the tears is my religion
  • I do not believe in a God or religion which
cannot wipe the widow's tears or bring a piece of
bread to the orphan's mouth. However sublime be
the theories, however well - spun may be the
philosophy -- I do not call it religion so long
as it is confined to books and dogmas. The eye is
in the forehead and not in the back. Move onward
and carry into practice that which you are very
proud to call your religion and God bless you!

21
Wish to be a free man
  • If you think that you are bound, you remain
bound you make your own bondage. If you know
that you are free, you are free this moment. This
is knowledge, knowledge of freedom. Freedom is
    the goal of all nature.

22
Wish to experience the truth in your work
  • Let us work without desire for name or fame or
rule over others. Let us be free from the triple
bonds of lust, greed of gain, and anger. And this
    truth is with us!

23
Practice of religion should be a joy
  • We must be bright and cheerful. Long faces do not
make religion. Religion should be the most joyful
thing in the world, because it is the best.

24
He thanks the humanity for propagation of
universal brother hood
  • My thanks to those noble souls whose large hearts
and love of truth first dreamed this wonderful
dream and then realized it. My thanks to the
shower of liberal sentiments that has overflowed
this platform. My thanks to this enlightened
audience for their uniform kindness to me and for
their appreciation of every thought that tends to
smooth the friction of religions. A few jarring
notes were heard from time to time in this
harmony. My special thanks to them, for they
have, by their striking contrast, made general
    harmony the sweeter.

25
Wish to attain grace of god
  • God is very merciful to those whom He sees
struggling heart and soul for spiritual
realization. But remain idle, without any
struggle, and you will see that His grace will
    never come.

26

27
Look forward for success
  • Don't look back - forward, infinite energy,
    infinite enthusiasm, infinite daring, and
infinite patience - then alone can great deeds be
    accomplished.

28
Wish to attain GOD
  • God is not to be reached by the weak. Never be
weak. You have infinite strength within you. How
else will you conquer anything? How else will you
    come to God?

Swami passes away while praying for masses
  • 4th July 1902 was a memorable day. Swami
Vivekananda, a great prophet of modern India,
passed away at about 900 pm while he was in
meditation. The flame of his life-lamp, which
brightened the spiritual world, suddenly blew out
in the deep darkness of night
