Monday, Wednesday and Saturday between Kota
Kinabalu and Papar.

Construction of the then North Borneo Railway
began in 1896 under the command of civil
engineer Arthur J.West.

It was originally intended primarily for the
transportation of tobacco from the interior areas
of North Borneo to the coast for export.

The Vulcan wood-fired steam locomotives

The Vulcan is the last of a fleet of steam
engines that have plied the tracks through Borneo
since the last 1800s. It is also one of the
only few functional wood-fired steam locomotives
left in the world.
