Capabilities
  • Total expenditure from UASI grant money and
    supplemental 2003-2007 77,456,264
  • To date, nearly all of these funds have been
    allocated to mitigation, preparedness and
    response capabilities.
  • To this day, very little has been spent on
    recovery.

Kobe, Japan
  • Facilities at the Port of Kobe, Japan, destroyed
    by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake on January 17,
    1995.
  • By 1997Nearly 5 billion was spent to restore
    the port's facilities and install cranes and
    other structures designed to withstand a similar
    disaster.
  • To this date they have not fully recovered the
    total lost business. They are open, but struggle
    to remain a viable operation.
