• Therefore let him who thinks
  he stands take heed lest he fall.

• For if, after they have escaped the
  pollutions of the world through the
  knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
  they are again entangled in them and overcome,
  the latter end is worse for them than the
  beginning. 21 For it would have been better for
  them not to have known the way of righteousness,
  than having known it, to turn from the holy
  commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has
  happened to them according to the true proverb
  A dog returns to his own vomit, and, a sow,
  having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

Acts 2029-30

• For I know this, that after my departure
  savage wolves will come in among
  you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among
  yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse
  things, to draw away the disciples after
  themselves.
• False teachers can lead to backsliding!

Matthew 1321

• Yet he has no root in himself, but
  endures only for a while. For when
  tribulation or persecution arises because of the
  word, immediately he stumbles.
• Rocky Soil. Tribulation and Persecution can lead
  to backsliding!

1 John 215-17

• Do not love the world or the things
  in the world. If anyone loves the
  world, the love of the Father is not in
  him. 16 For all that is in the world--the lust
  of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride
  of life -- is not of the Father but is of the
  world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the
  lust of it but he who does the will of God
  abides forever.
• The world, lusts and the pride of life can lead
  to backsliding

Conclusion

• The cure for backsliding?
• Repentance!
• Repent therefore of this your wickedness,
  and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart
  may be forgiven you.
