Unit 1 Using ICT

• Unit 1 covers the basic ICT skills needed for
  most jobs
• It looks at the use of databases, spreadsheets,
  desktop publishing, presentations and word
  processing software
• Builds on and applies skills from Key Stage 3

• For the coursework, students will
• Create a small survey
• Analyse the results using a spreadsheet
• Use a database to extract useful information from
  a set of data
• Use their findings to create newsletters,
  reports, presentations, web pages, posters, etc.

Unit 2 - Multimedia

• Unit 2 covers the use of ICT to create multimedia
  products, such as web sites, quizzes, movie clips
  and animations
• Much more creative
• Introduces completely new skills and software

• For the coursework, students will
• Investigate existing products created by
  professionals
• Use the Internet, digital movie cameras and voice
  recorders to gather information
• Create a range of products such as interactive
  quizzes, e-learning packages, movie trailers,
  presentations, virtual tours, animated video
  clips or simple interactive games

Unit 3 Graphics (DiDA Only)

• Unit 3 covers the use of computer generated and
  manipulated images
• Students will look at how to make images for
  particular purposes, combining a variety of
  skills using professional quality software

• For the coursework, students will
• Investigate existing products created by
  professionals
• Create computer graphics from scratch
• Use graphics to create everyday products such as
  t-shirts, logos, gift bags, banners, posters,
  packaging, window stickers, medals, etc.

Unit 4 Enterprise (DiDA Only)

• Unit 4 looks at the use of ICT in business
• It is NOT business studies, but does share some
  similar areas
• Students will look at the ways in which ICT can
  help improve the efficiency of a business and the
  different techniques that are used in the
  professional world

Unit 4 Enterprise (DiDA Only)

• For the coursework, students will
• Work as part of a team
• Create a business plan
• Use spreadsheets to check that the business will
  succeed
• Create promotional materials such as posters,
  leaflets, web pages, etc.
