1. DEFENSIVE ZONE

NEUTRAL ZONE
DEFENSIVE ZONE
Hustle all the way to the box when changing. Your
shift isnt over until youre on the bench.
Be sure to hold up opposing fore-checker on dump
ins at all face offs.
Late man arriving in zone check behind and pick
up open opponent
When caught out of position and tired, get a
whistle Ice the puck!
Pick up the wide man or trailer in the neutral
zone when back- checking STAY with him all the
way to the net. Wings recover to point coverage
duties when play settles down
Point coverage to weak-side always watches slots
front of net if someone low gets beat. Be a
safety valve
Always play the body no fishing!
When covering a man weakside, stay on defensive
side within stick lengths distances block out
at all times
Never leave a man unguarded in front of our net,
when puck possession is in jeopardy. However, if
we have or clearly are going to have possession,
get to an outlet position for breakout
Winning 1-1 battles will win hockey games
Backcheck aggressively so that our D-man can hold
our blue line do not chase puck carrier.
Man to man D-zone coverage down deep (Def Cen),
wings play zone. Keep body between your man our
net. NO ROOM
Always force opponent with puck HARD as he enters
our zone. Use Coffin Corner
Defense STEP UP and take your man as he cuts
cross ice if you have a stick on him. If further
than a stick length, stay in lane and switch
responsibilities
Stay on feet during D-zone coverage exceptions
1) D below hash on 2-1 2) weakside D pen-kill ro
tation
3) block shot at point
Watch your man he cant beat you out of corner.
Stay with him after he passes the puck No give

Be strong on the boards. If challenged, protect
puck and make sure it gets out over our blueline,
especially on wraps
Always pivot when looking for a pass. Face the
puck centers post up if needed

Diagonal cross ice passes in all zones should be
attempted ONLY when we are 100 sure of
completion, THEY MUST BE HARD

Defense, remember to stay inside dots on
rotations to give you 2 good pass angles middle

OFFENSIVE ZONE
If there is no outlet, use cycle play to corner
or scissor play with D. Do not turn puck over
between blue line and hashmarks.
Work the alleys. Drive hard to the outside
Never pass the puck blindly back toward our zone,
to the slot or to the point.
AVOID BEING OFFSIDE IN PRACTICE AS WELL AS GAMES.
Create outnumbered (2x1) situations by hustling
supporting the puck carrier
NEVER be below goal line when puck is at the
point GET IN FRONT!
Puck carrier should try to penetrate into O-Zone.
Do not force in outnumbered situations at
blueline. Dump puck, delay, or regroup.
Take the puck toward the net. Shoot very or very
low and always very hard. Have poise and take
punishment in red zone. Stop at net for rebounds
or late passes. Rebounds are key for goal
scoring. Follow all shots aggressively to the net
and be strong on stick. Rebounds account for over
50 of all goals.
FORWARDS- Dump puck back to D during regrouping
when facing the wrong way. Then circle and
regroup with speed.
Do not use slapshot below hashmarks. Always shoot
from top of circles and in
