    Plant (CUP)
  • SCOPE/DESCRIPTION Phase 1 will provide highly
    reliable conditioned electricity, steam, chilled
    water, and emergency standby electrical
generation to multiple off-taker facilities owned
by the Army, Department of Homeland Security, and
the National Institutes of Health. Specifically
three NIBC tenants to include approximately 16MW
    of diesel-fueled back-up emergency power, 173,000
pounds per hour of steam capacity, 3,500 tons per
hour of chilled water capacity, and the optional
capability to improve power quality and
    reliability by passing Fort Detrick-purchased
electricity through a power conditioning system.
The Phase 2 CUP expansion is intended to include
full-scale co-generation and will be constructed
as the NIBC and other commercial energy markets
    grow.

  • PROJECT USAMRIID Recapitalization Stage I
  • SCOPE/DESCRIPTION The USAMRIID Stage 1 Project
will decompress the existing USAMRIID facility
and allow the agency to conduct work in
appropriate facilities. The new USAMRIID Stage 1
facility will include approximately 687,000 gross
square feet (GSF) of laboratories, aerobiology,
    vivarium, and administrative space. Existing
Buildings 1412 and 1408 at Fort Detrick, as well
as several additional USAMRIID assets, are
planned for demolition after the completion and
occupancy of Stage 1. Stage 1 also supports the
Base Realignment and Closure- (BRAC-) recommended
relocation of the medical biological defense
research programs from the Walter Reed Army
Institute of Research and the Naval Medical
Research Center at Forrest Glen, Maryland, to
USAMRIID. This relocation will allow the
formation of the Joint Center of Excellence in
    Medical Biological Defense Research
