9
Pulse Target Heart Rate
  • Data from American Heart Association
  • 220 - your age Max Heart Rate
  • Target Heart Rate Take 60-85 of this max to
find your range. If you are working 60-80 (up to
85 for very fit people) of your max heart rate,
that is a good range for most people trying to
lose weight or maintain good health.

10
Pulse Target Heart Rate
  • Example (for a 20 year old)
  • - 220-20200 Maximum Heart Rate
  • - 200 x .6120 beats/min, 200 x .85170
beats/min. In this case, the Target Heart Rate
    range would be 120-170 beats/min.
  • - To find your current beats/min, find your
pulse on your neck or wrist. Count the number
of beats in 6 seconds and multiply by 10.
Compare this to the range for your Target Heart
    Rate.

11
American Heart Association
  • Age Target Heart Rate Maximum Heart Rate
  • (beats per minute) (beats per minute)
  • 20 years 100170 200
  • 25 years 98166 195
  • 30 years 95162 190
  • 35 years 93157 185
  • 40 years 90153 180
  • 45 years 88149 175
  • 50 years 85145 170
  • 55 years 83140 165
  • 60 years 80136 160
  • A few high blood pressure medications lower the
maximum heart rate and thus the target zone rate.
If you're taking such medicine, call your
