Feb. 10, 2003 Advice for the public
CHARLES GIBSON, ABC NEWS

(Off Camera) It has been three days,
now, since the status of the national terror
alert was raised from yellow to orange. And
today, the government suggested ways that
Americans might prepare for a terrorist attack,
specific things each American ought to do.
Here's ABC's Pierre Thomas in Washington.
(Voice Over) As signs of stepped-up security were
visible across the country, the government, for
the first time, urged Americans to develop their
own emergency plans for terrorism, plans that
call for maintaining a 3-day supply of food and
water, and keeping duct tape and plastic
sheeting to seal their homes in the event of
chemical or biological attack.

Feb. 11, 2003 Advice for the public
Top federal officials yesterday issued their
most pointed advice since Sept. 11, 2001, on
precautions the public should take against
terrorist attacks, warning that every home should
be stocked with three days' worth of water and
food in case of a strike with chemical,
biological or radiological weapons.

They also recommended
that families consider designating a room where
they will gather in the event of such an attack,
and have on hand duct tape and heavy plastic
sheeting to seal it, as well as scissors, a
manual can opener, blankets, flashlights, radios
and spare batteries. The officials said they
believe the al Qaeda terrorist network is
particularly targeting New York and
Washington. Washington
