The Monument
  • The Monument is situated on the Diamond.
  • It was built in 1937 in memory of the Four
    Masters.
  • It is 25 feet high and is made from Mountcharles
    sandstone.

Donegal Castle
  • It is on Tirconáill street.
  • Red Hugh ODonnell built the castle.
  • It was built in 1474.
  • After the Flight of the Earls Basil Brooke was
    awarded the castle.

  • In 1601 Basil Brook built an extension onto the
    castle.
  • In 1898 the Earl of Aran gave it back to The
    Office of Public Works.
  • Today it is a famous tourist attraction.

  • This was the first school in Donegal Town.

  • It is now a Doctors surgery.

  • The Methodist Church is on the bank of the river
    Eske.
  • It was built in 1888.

  • The Methodist Hall also holds games and
    activities.

  • This church is opposite Donegal castle.
  • It was built in 1890.
  • People used to worship at the old Abbey before
    this church was built.

  • St. Patricks Church is on the Main Street.
  • It is built from granite from the Bluestack
    mountains.
  • Father Peoples and Father Chambers are the
    priests of this church.

  • The Presbyterian church was built in 1886.
  • It is situated on the road to Killybegs.
  • Rev. Richmond has been a minister in Donegal for
    3 years.

The Old Abbey
  • It was built the same year as the castle.
  • It was founded by Nuala ODonnell in 1474.
  • Red Hugh,Nuala and their son were buried there
    ,exact spot is unknown.

  • After the flight of the Earls,Basil Brooke and
    his wife did up the Old Abbey for their own
    people.
  • The Annals of the Four Masters was written
    here.

  • The Anchor belonged to a French ship called the
    Romaine.
  • It was dropped in 1798.
  • In the 1950s the Anchor was put on display at the
    pier.
  • It weighs 1.5 tonnes.

  • Mc Philemys Furniture store is located on the
    Killybegs road.
  • Before it was a furniture store it was a barracks
    for the British army.

Magees Shop
  • Magees is owned by the Temple family.
  • Magees shop is situated on the Diamond.
  • They weave all different types of tweed and use
    traditional patterns.

The Court House.
  • In a court session a flag is raised.
  • Major reasons people go to court for are
    committing crimes.
  • Minor reasons speed, parking tickets etc.
  • The Office of Public works owns The Court House.
