Title: Etiquettes of a Muslim on a Friday

1
The Etiquettes of a Muslim on a Friday
2
Friday is significant and special for the Muslims
  • The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said It was Friday
from which Allah diverted those who were before
us. For the Jews (the day set aside for prayer)
was Saturday, and for the Christians it was
Sunday. In this order they (Jews and Christians)
would come after us on the Day of Resurrection.
We are the last (of the nations) among the people
    in
  • this world and the first among the creatures to
be judged on the Day of Resurrection.
  • (Muslim)
  • Friday is an important day of the Believers. Many
important events which become the turning points
in the history of Islam had taken place on this
    auspicious day.
  • Prophet Adam (peace be on him) was created on
    Friday,
  • the verse declaring perfection of Islam was
    revealed on this day
  • and the Day of Resurrection shall occur on
    Friday.
  • Hence this auspicious day should be observed with
sanctity and solemnity, with maximum Divine
    service.

3
  • Friday, is primarily the Day of assembly, the
weekly meeting of the Congregation, when we show
our unity by sharing in common public worship,
proceeded by a 'khutba' in the which the Imam (
or Leader) reviews the week's life of the
community and offers advice and exhortation on
    good living..
  • Rasulullah (Allah bless him give him peace)
said "Friday is the "mother" of all days and the
most virtuous in the sight of Allah Ta'ala. In
the sight of Allah Ta'ala it has more greatness
than Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Ad'haa. " (Ibn Majah)

5
Friday and its Prayer are mentioned in the Holy
Quran
  • "O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to
prayer on Friday ( the Day of Assembly), hasten
earnestly to the remembrance of Allah, and leave
off business ( and traffic) that is best for you
if ye but knew!" (al-Jumu'a 2)
  • Abu Hurairah ( Allah be pleased with him) reports
that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) said The most important
day that ever dawned is Friday. It was on this
day that Adam (peace be upon him) was created and
on this day he was admitted to paradise and it
was on Friday when he was expelled from there
(and was appointed vicegerent of Allah ) and it
is on this day that the Doom shall occur."
    (Muslim)

6
Women and theFriday Prayer
  • Should a woman pray Jumuah, it will be valid and
she will no longer be obliged to pray the Dhuhr.
Women during the time of the Prophet (peace and
blessings b upon him) attended the mosque and
used to pray Jumuah with him.
  • It is correct that Jumuah prayer is not
obligatory upon women, but women are allowed to
pray Jumuah prayers in the mosque along with
men. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon
him) said, "Do not prevent the female servants of
Allah to come to the mosques of Allah." (Reported
    by Al-Bukhari)
  • Women used to attend the Jumuah and other
prayers in the Mosque of the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) during his lifetime. They
were never told to pray Dhuhr also. Thus, it is
clear that if a woman prays Jumuah prayer in the
mosque with the congregation, then this is
sufficient for her. She does not have to pray
    Dhuhr after that.

7
The pathto Paradise
  • Abu Sa'eed Khudri ( Allah be pleased with him)
reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him) observed"The
are five acts which, if performed on a single
day, shall mark a man for the paradise. These
    are
  • To enquire after the health of the sick.
  • To join a funeral.
  • To observe a fast.
  • To offer Friday prayer.
  • To set a slave free. (Ibn Hibban)
  • In paradise, the believers will see Allah and
visit Him on Friday. It is the best day which
Allah has chosen from the days of the week, just
as he has chosen Ramadan as the best of the
months and Laylat al Qadr (the night of decree)
as the best of the nights and Muhammad as the
    best of His creatures.
  •

8
The merits of the Friday Prayer
  • Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that Rasool SAW said
  • The five prayers and from Friday prayer is an
expiation of sins committed in between
  • them if major sins are not committed.
  • Sahih Muslim

9
Supplication is accepted during a certain time on
a Friday
  • Abu Hurairah (ra) reports that Prophet Muhammed
    (pbuh) said
  • The best day on which the sun has risen is
Friday.....and it contains a time at which, no
Muslim prays and asks for anything from Allah,
but Allah will give it to him
  • Jabir Ibn Abdullah narrated that Prophet Muhammed
    (pbuh) said
  • Friday is divided into 12 hours. Amongst them
there is an hour in which, a Muslim does not ask
for anything but He gives it to him. So seek it
in the last hour, after the afternoon prayer
  • (Sunan Abu Dawood)

Friday is like a Day of Eed
  • Muslims believe that in Islam there are 3 Eeds
  • Eed Ul Fitr
  • Eed Ul Adha
  • Friday The day of Eed
  • The following are some narrations in which Friday
is mentioned as the Day of Eed.
  • Verily, this is the Eed Day. Allah has
    prescribed it for the Muslims.....
  • (Sunan Ibn Maajah)
  • Abu Hurairah reports that one Friday the Prophet
sallallahu alehi wasallam said "O gathering of
Muslims, Allah has made this day an Eid for you,
so make ghusl and use the miswak." related by
at-Tabarani with a chain whose narrators are
    trustworthy

12
Invocation on Rasool SAW on Friday
Aws Ibn Aws relates. The Prophet (pbuh) said
....so invoke blessings upon me that day, for
your blessings will be submitted to me Allah
has Angels who travel about in the earth and
convey to me greetings from my people (Saheeh
Sunan An Nasaaee)

13
Ibn al-Qayyim says "It is preferred to pray
for (Allah's blessings on the Prophet during the
day and night of Jumu'ah as the Prophet
said 'Make many prayers upon me during the day
of Friday and the night of Friday.' The
Messenger of Allah is the leader of mankind, and
Jumu'ah is the best of the days of the week.
Prayers upon him during that day are a privilege
he deserves which belongs to no other. This act
also has another wisdom to it and that is that
all of the good that has passed onto this
Muslim Ummah, in this life and the hereafter,
has passed through him. Allah has gathered the
good of this life and the next life for Muslims,
and the greatest honour and success will be
granted to them on Friday. On that day, they will
be granted their houses and palaces in paradise
and that is the day they will be given more when
they enter paradise. It is a day of celebration
for them in this life. It is also a day in which
Allah fulfils their needs and answers their
prayers and requests in this world. They are
aware of all of that and are able to attain it
because of the Prophet and it is through him
that they received these teachings therefore,
in gratitude and appreciation for the great
blessings we received through him, we should make
many prayers upon him during the day and night of
Jumu 'ah."
14
The Day of Resurrection will be on a Friday
Abu Lubaabah Ibn Abdul Munthir reported that the
Prophet (pbuh) said On that Day will occur the
Resurrection. There is neither any angel nearest
(to Allah) nor any heaven nor earth nor the wind,
a mountain and a sea, but all of them fear the
day of Friday (Jumuah). (Sunan Ibn
Majaah) Aboo Hurayrah (ra) reported that the
Prophet (pbuh) said ....and on it the last Hour
will take place. On Friday every beast is on the
lookout from dawn until sunrise in fear of the
last Hour, but not men and jinn..... (Sunan Abu
Dawwod)
15
Those who are exempt from the Friday Prayer
  • We all know Friday prayer is an obligatory
Prayer and should be observed in congregation.
  • Hafsah Ummul Mumineen reported that the Prophet
    (pbuh) said
  • It is necessary for every adult (person) to go
    for Friday prayer
  • Allah has mentioned severe punishment for those
who miss the Friday prayer. If a person leaves
it for three weeks he becomes hard hearted and
does not feel the gravity of the sin. However,
some people are exempted from Friday Prayer
  • A slave
  • A woman and girls (though ladies can prayer at
the mosque if they wish to)
  • A boy under the age of 10
  • An ill person
  • A traveller

16
Dhuhr Salaah can be offered at home for certain
reasons
  • Travelling and Illness (see last slide)
  • Heavy rain (Sunan Abu Dawood)
  • Severe Cold (Sunan Abu Dawood)
  • Due to oversleeping (Sunan Abu Dawood)
  • Due to forgetfulness (Sunan Abu Dawood)

17
Before the Friday prayer one should
  • Buying and selling is prohibited from the first
call to prayer on a Friday. It is haraam to
continue trading after the Azaan. In Surah
    Jumuah Allah Swt says
  • O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed
for the prayer on Friday, come to the remembrance
of Allah, an leave off business. That is best
for you if you but knew.
  • Performing Ghusl on a Friday is highly
recommended like the bath of a janaba.
  • Performing ablution according to the Sunnah of
    Rasool SAW
  • Samurah reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said
  • If anyone of you performs ablution on Friday
that is alright, and if any of you takes a bath,
that is better (Sunan Abu Dawood)

18
Before the Friday prayer one should
  • Using the Miswaak. The Prophet (pbuh) said
  • ...he who comes to observe the Friday
prayer....bear in mind that the toothbrush
(miswak) is essential for you (Sahih Ibn Maajah)
  • To remove an offensive smells such as onion or
garlic before going to the mosque. (See Sahih
    Muslim)

19
Before the Friday prayer one should
  • Listening to the Khutbah silently without
    speaking a single word
  • The Prophet (pbuh) said
  • When you tell your companion on Friday to be
silent while the imam is preaching, you are
guilty of idle talk (Sahih Al Bukharee)
  • Reward for praying with the imam
  • The Prophet (pbuh) said
  • There are three who attend Friday prayer one
is present in a frivolous way and that is all he
gets from it, another comes with a supplication,
he being a man who makes a supplication to Allah
Who may grant or refuse his request as He wishes
another is present silently and quietly without
stepping over a Muslim or annoying anyone, and
that is an atonement for his sins until the next
Friday and three days more the reason being that
    Allah (swt) says
  • He who does a good deed will have ten times as
    much
  • (Sunan ibn Dawood, Surah Al Anam)

20
Manners while prayingwith the Imam
  • Making rows straight, filling the gaps
  • Saying Ameen after Sorratul Fatihaah
  • To not lift the eyes towards the sky in prayer
  • To follow the imam when bowing and prostrating,
and not to do your actions before him but rather
    after him

21
The merit of reciting Surah Al Kahf on a Friday
The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
Whoever recited Soorat Al-Kahf in the same
manner in which it was revealed, it will serve
for him as a light on the Day of Judgment, from
his domicile to Makkah. And whoever recited the
last ten verses, and it happens that the Dajjaal
should appear after that, Dajjaal will not be
empowered over him. Al-Haakim 1/564
Adh-Dhahabee
Abu Ad-Dardaa reported that the Messenger of
Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said,
Anyone who memorizes ten aayahs from the
beginning of Soorat Al-Kahf will be protected
from the Dajjaal. Muslim, Riyaad As-Saaliheen
by Imaam An-Nawawee 183 1012 One narration says,
from the end of Soorat Al-Kahf.

Soorat Al-Kahf 4 stories
When Moosaa was asked, Who is the most
knowledgeable person in the earth? He said, Me
Then Allaah revealed to him that there was
someone more knowledgeable than him. - Moosaa
traveled to meet him in order to learn from him
how sometimes we do not understand Allaahs
Wisdom but He is invariably Wise (i.e. the
ship, the boy, the wall)
The story of the believing young men who were
living in a disbelieving country. They decided
to leave their homes and run away with their
religion after a confrontation between them and
their people. - Allaah rewarded them with the
mercy of the cave and care of the sun - They
woke up to find their village were all believers
The story of the great king that joined both
knowledge and strength, and traveled to all parts
of the earth, helping people and spreading
goodness. - He overcame the
problem of Gog and Magog by building a dam and
was able to put to work the strength of a people
who could hardly understand a word.
The story of the man who Allaah had blessed, but
he forgot the One who had blessed him,
transgressed and had doubts in his faith. He
didnt give thanks for the blessings, even though
his friend reminded him. - Destruction of the
crops and harvest - Regret after it was too late

The Dajjaal will appear prior to the Day of
Judgment with 4 trials
He will ask people to worship him instead of
Allaah
Trial of religion
He will order the sky to rain, and he will tempt
people with his wealth.
Trial of wealth
He will try people with knowledge due to what he
reveals to people of news
Trial of knowledge
He will control major parts of the Earth
Trial of authority
24
The Boats of Success
Good Companionship
And keep yourself (O Muhammad) patiently with
those who call on their Lord (i.e. your
companions who remember their Lord with
glorification, praising in prayers, etc., and
other righteous deeds, etc.) morning and
afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your
eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter
of the life of the world and obey not him whose
heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance,
one who follows his own lusts and whose affair
(deeds) has been lost.
Soorat Al-Kahf, aayah 28
Knowing the Realities of Life
And put forward to them the example of the life
of this world, it is like the water (rain) which
We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of
the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and
green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken
pieces, which the winds scatter. And Alaah is
Able to do everything.
Soorat Al-Kahf, aayah 45
25
The Boats of Success
Humility
He (Moses) said "If Allaah will, you will find
me patient, and I will not disobey you in
aught.
Soorat Al-Kahf, aayah 69
Sincerity
Say (O Muhammad) "I am only a man like you. It
has been inspired to me that your Ilaah (God) is
One Ilaah. So whoever hopes for the meeting with
his Lord, let him work righteousness and
associate none as a partner in the worship of his
Lord.
Soorat Al-Kahf, aayah 110
????? ???? ?? ????? ?? ??? ???? ??? ??? Oh
Allaah, save me from the trials, that which is
obvious and that which is hidden
26
Spread the word, as the one who guides to
goodness is like one who does it
