Food
  • They mostly ate buffalo. they also ate bear, deer
    and antelope.
  • Sometimes they ate wild turkey and hens.
  • They ate boiled, broiled, raw and dry buffalo.
  • They used buffalo bones as toys.
  • They made spoons and cups out of buffalo horns.
  • They ate a lot of fruits and vegetables such as
    wild fruit, cherries, berries, plums, potatoes,
    spinach and prairie turnips.
  • They used wild cherry pits in pemmican.

Shelter
  • They lived in a tipi. they made it out of buffalo
    hides and long wooden poles.
  • The women were in charge of the tipi, they could
    set it up and take it down in a few minutes.
  • They took everything when they travelled.
  • They slept on buffalo robes and the babies slept
    in cradles.
  • They slept on the left side of the door in the
    tipi.
  • They believed nobody owned the land.
  • They built their homes on land which is now
    called Minnesota.

Clothing
  • Their clothes were made out of animal skin such
    as elk and antelope but mostly deer skin.
  • Women and girls usually wore leggings and
    dresses.
  • Sioux clothes were decorated with elk teeth, bear
    claws, feathers and fur.
  • Sioux hair was usually wore loose or in braids.
    their hair was usually down to their shoulders.
  • Women often painted their part line red.
  • Men and boys wore deerskin shirts and leggings.
