1
NEW CPE Recertification Credit System
3/21/07
2
When Will the CPE System be Implemented?
  • Use of the new recertification credit guides will
    begin on January 1, 2008.
  • Its important to remember that the change is the
    method of
  • calculation for credits. Activities and the
    various options for
  • earning recertification credits are the same.

3
What is the CPE Credit System?
  • CPE Continuing Professional Education
  • A standard of measure used to calculate
    continuing professional development
  • One credit for one instruction hour (at least 50
    minutes)

4
Why Change to CPE System?
  • It is clear and more precise than the current
    unit of measure
  • It eliminates ambiguity about how to divide and
    attribute credits
  • It is recognized worldwide by a variety of
credentialing bodies such as - ACFE, CFE, and
    ISC(2)
  • It enhances the ability and opportunity to
    calculate credits for multiple recertification
    programs

5
How do I Convert Credits?
  • The new credit guide translates to approximately
one ASIS credit to four CPEs
  • Certification staff will perform the conversion
of ALL certificants due to recertify by December
    31 of 2008, 2009 and 2010
  • You only need to submit your recertification
    activities as you normally do

6
How Many CPE Credits are Needed?
  • Each designation requires the following CPE
    credits per 3-year term
  • 60 for CPP
  • 45 for PSP and PCI
  • Recertification fees are the same for all
programs(60 for members and 80 for
    non-members)
  • Increased activity is not required
  • to fulfill new credit requirements

7
Certification Terms
All recertification programs now have the same
three-year recertification term.
  • Streamlining is a major benefit to those who have
    multiple certifications
  • By making PSP recertification requirement three
years, it reduces uncertainty about expiration
    dates
  • What about lapse policy?
  • The policy for reinstating a certification after
one year of lapse remains the same

8
CPP, PCI, and PSP Recertification
  • Separate recertification forms are needed for
    CPP, PSP and PCI recertification
  • This is true even if some or all of your
activities qualify for credit under more than one
    certification
  • Recertification ActivitiesRemain the Same
  • Certificants can earn their credits by using a
combination of both education and volunteer
activities, ensuring that the latter accounts for
no more than 50 percent of their total CPP
    credit submission

9
Credit Submission
  • Submitting Proof of Completion for Educational
    CPUs
  • It is important to ensure that Certificates of
    Training/Completion contain the following
    information
  • Program Sponsor
  • Course Title
  • Date
  • Hours Attended
