121.5/243 MHZNew EPIRB Policy
  • Phased plan is to remove all EPIRBS operating on
    121.5/243Mhz 01JAN07 Thru 01FEB09 at which time
    processing these distress signals will be
    terminated word wide.
  • Authorized 406Mhz beacons do contain a 121.5Mhz
    homing signal, which will continue to be used for
    direction finding purposes.
  • CG will continue to respond if a 121.5/243 is
    used for distress after 31DEC06 recognizing
    mariners should use any available means to signal
    distress.

  • SAR Line 24X7 / 799-1680
  • SAR Controller / 767-0303
  • VHF Channel 16
  • Digital Selective Calling (DSC)
  • Receive 2187.5
  • NO VHF DSC at this time, only on boats, not
    monitored at Sector NNE.
  • Monitor 2182Khz 24X7.
  • Direct line to Portland Jetport Tower
  • All these methods are monitored by Sector Command
    Center 24X7.
