Our Service Area
4
Our Mission Creating Opportunities for Your
Success
5
Department Philosophy
  • Exceptional customer service
  • Service department
  • Our success is dependent on developing strong
relationships with our customers based on trust
    and credibility
  • How do our decisions affect our customers?
  • Balance between giving faculty what they want and
what the college can afford and support

6
Some Background
  • 6 Campuses technologically separated
  • 5 different operating systems
  • No desktop standard
  • No shared storage
  • Slow recovery process

7
We Needed Help!
  • We chose HP to standardize and lay the
    infrastructure groundwork for our future.
  • At the same time, we created a new strategic
plan to lay the philosophical groundwork.

8
DMACCs Strategic Plan Some Top Trends and
Issues
  • CAMPUS CLIMATEImprove communication,
    cooperation, problem solving, respect and
    innovation.
  • RESOURCESAcquire new resources while better
    utilizing existing resources to meet
    ever-increasing student needs.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERYIncreased learner-centered
flexibility in the scheduling of courses and the
format of curriculum. Needs will be met anytime,
    anywhere

9
We asked what technologies would address those
issues
  • What technology will really help our students,
our faculty and staff? Beyond being neat or
    cool.
  • How does the technology fit into our strategic
    plan?
  • What makes this the best investment of our
    limited funds?
  • What are the ongoing and unintended consequences
and costs? People, time and upgrades?

10
Im so glad you asked the questions, Boss!
11
Heres what we looked for
  • A portal to serve staff and students at six
    campuses
  • Scalability
  • Adaptability as technologies/needs change
  • Affordability
  • Ease of use
  • Anytime / anywhere access

12
We chose SharePoint
  • Leveraged our existing Exchange Server
  • SharePoint Portal Server
  • Windows SharePoint Services
  • Choose Your Own Adventure
  • - Live Communication Server
  • - Biz Talk
  • - Etc.
  • Add and customize at your own pace

13
DMACC is using it for
  • My Site
  • Department sites
  • Sites for our at-risk students
  • Targeted information
  • Class web sites to make it easy to communicate
    information to students
